BehindTheName.com
This is a good place to find inspiration for names: https://www.behindthename.com/random/.
My intention was just to point you in the direction of the website but as soon as I started this post, the name Kelsa popped in my head.
I love dragons. But are they a myth? I think not. There's one very old book thats quite popular that mentions them. Maybe not by the name dragon. He/they used “ fiery serpent like creatures that fly”. It's in Isaiah; the Bible. I believe they were the Seraphim. They are the creatures that fly in circles over the throne of God saying Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord Almighty. So you could use some of them. Gadreel was the seraph that guarded the Garden of Eden. Marut and Harut were fallen angels that practice sorcery. Jophiel was noted for his wisdom, understanding and judgement. Uriel was a seraph as well. He was the patron of arts. There weren't many females though. They usually helped their mate fight off other dragons wanting to mate with her and they just weren't able to fend off the mighty males who were much larger. I have read also that soon after they laid the eggs; they were killed by their mate in an effort to keep their lines pure. So no other male could mate with her. Johoel was one of the serphium too noted for fire. You might google “dragons names” but I thought you might like some real names. But...if you google my names you will find that everyone seems to have a different story on names. Most can't even decide on the names of the Archangels. Almost all get the hierarchy of angels correct but not the names. Heres 400 from google Dragon Names: 400+ Cool Male and Female Dragon Names (worthstart.com) They got some good ones for both sexes. Good luck (I'd love to read it!)
A List of Names
I really like names. I usually use Behind the Name but I also have a list of random names in my head so here you go! You can feel free to use any of them and I added a speaking guide for the ones that are harder to pronounce. :)
Dragon:
Zulfiqar (ZUHL-fee-kar) - means "Cleaver of the spine" in Arabic. Think that could be a cool dragon name
Aariel (AH-ree-el) - is a variant of Ariel, which means "lion of God". I don't know why this one stood out to me but apparently It's a Gnostic name (which is a Greek religion?) and I think it's kinda cute.
Serrin (SEH-ren) - means "traitor, deceiver". I don't know how big on name meanings, but if you aren't, I think this name is so cute. I just imagine a small blue dragon that keeps licking people even though his person is trying to leave for work and wen he gets mad, he puffs up and sets her shoe on fire. But, he's little so the fire's tiny.
Takeru (TAH-keh-roo) - means "fierce, rave, rush, become furious, wildness, strength" or "arms, chivalry, military, warrior". I think it's a cute name for a dragon. I imagine this one is red and fat and always eats foods he shouldn't and his person has to constantly make him spit out rocks because they're hard for him to pass.
Caneque (CAHN-neek) - Mayan name that roughly means "mischievous forest spirit". This one is unisex, though I personally think it's a more feminine name. Just imagine a huge green dragon that is always causing trouble but doesn't seem to grasp that she's huge so when she does stuff, she hides and everyone knows that it's her and that she's just not that bright.
Girl/Human:
Troi (said like Troy) - I actually just made this one up. I imagined a girl with a black braid down her back with a sliver of greu (as a birth mark) and auburn eyes and a scar on her lip.
Kashmir (said like cashmere) - This isn't mae up. It's a contentious area that Pakistan and India are fighting over. I imagined a dark skinned girl with very short hair, thigh high boots, and henna going down both arms of dragons.
Asta - There's a reality star named Asta Young that is a cosplayer and a cosplay that she did of a mage a few years ago stuck out to me
Oliveira - this is a name from my game that I play. It's a Portuguese styled name and I thought it was rather pretty.
Uiara (WEE- ahr-uh) - this name is a variant of Iara and it's a native Tupi name. It means "lady of the water". I thought it was really pretty. gives me water goddess vibes.
I don't know if I went over the word limit (I hope not) but you can use any names and descriptions provided. :) Good luck with your story!
