Memories and Elations
I fell into a wide world of blue oceans.
Frustrated, I cast my blade into the shallows where it spiraled down amid the colorful reefs.
Gentle waves glided over the sands, reflecting the day-lit moons above.
Despite all this beauty an anger stirred within me, being stripped of my previous location as so. Was Rena alright? It could have been years already… How many times did the Crystal need to replace the heroes?
With Rena gone I was a nomad without kin.
“How long must I walk alone?” I called out, exasperated, falling to my knees in the wet sand.
I stood at an old sky-boat mooring, and across the sapphire bay, a misty jungle hung over the water. I gazed deeply into it, where will my destiny unfold? I wanted to see Rena.
Why had she chosen me? Was it even her decision?
Fighting back a storm of tears I clutched the sea-green materia; a precious small cluster of rocks from another world, suspended within a luminous band of energy.
I remembered the first piece of materia I ever held, how long ago that seemed to who I had become.
Time felt so expansive, and I so small; my spirit dipped.
Closing my fist tightly around the materia, I felt a light-bound energy flow through my body and a sensation of weightlessness overcame me.
“Where next?” I mused, lifting my gaze. I remembered where it all began.
“Well, wherever I’m fated, I hope it involves something to eat, real soon!”
The sunlight flared, reflecting gold on the water. I breathed in slow yet strong, and a feeling of hope rekindled.
The water felt soft under my feet as I started for the opposing shore.
