VIXEN
I am the Fox.
The observant one
In spirit and emotion.
Untrusting of humans,
I cause a commotion.
A fun loving nature.
I love humor and play,
I smile and charm my way
Hair of Red
Iʼm beautiful to see
I can disappear in a flash
No one has ever caught me
I walk in shadow and in light
As I move between worlds,
some would get a fright.
But I understand the higher realms
Where Angels walk and Demons dread
I am the Fox.
If I could
If I could, I'd spread my arms and change them into wings
Embrace blue skies with fearless flight as feathers grew
And gaze upon the world that was once so small and all I knew
If I could, I'd swing through mazes of twisted branches
Sliding down the snaking trucks of tall trees
Hopping to the next one with such agility and ease
If I could, I'd race across the snowy tips of the mountains
And with pounding paws and pounding heart run all afternoon
Then, as night fell cast my head back to howl at the harvest moon
Dinosaur
It's pretty obvious what type of animal I'd want to be
A dinosaur is the kind of animal for me
But what kind dinosaur of the east and west
Would fit me the best
I could be vicious as Tyrannosaurus
Or peaceful like Apatosaurus
How about a fast Velociraptor
or maybe a small Microraptor
Carnotaurus, Stegosaurus, Iguanadon
Yutyrannus, Ankylosaurus, Troodon
Utahraptor, Gallimimus, Triceratops
Nothronychus, Minmi, Protoceratops
So many dinosaurs so much fun
One too many to pick, I can't choose one
Snow Leopard
A warm heart in a land of white,
A strong warrior,
Stopping any threat in sight,
A silent, unseen hunter,
Invisible in the moonlight.
Beautiful and deadly,
Power in a body,
Purity covered in darkness,
Soft gold and stormy silver,
Lethal; tragic; kind,
The protector in the shadows,
Creature of the light.
Prowl
I would cross mountain ranges,
drop down onto the tundra floor,
and forage as the season changes,
in constant search of my pack of four.
I would slink between trees,
then peer through willows and alders.
During the day I would feel indestructible, free,
but in the cold night wonder if it mattered.
Each day I would flee from bears,
steadily follow the ravens,
prey on moose, caribou, deer,
longing to return to my den, my haven.
Fighting, surviving, living,
urged by a need I don’t understand,
I would keep on thriving,
and my lonely howl would cross the land.
Mysterious reptile as old as time
What secrets he hides in his shell
Only he can tell,
Of tales he has seen
In his trails under the sea.
Nestled in his abode,
He confides in himself alone.
For the years spent on this earth,
Has made him wise
To keep stories untold.
Forward he goes.
Paddling slow,
Taking pleasure in his travel
On land and sea.
Make no complaint of his pace,
As he knows life is an endless marathon race.
Peers out to face the world
To hear the calls of mother earth
Stirring his primal senses.
Then returns to his shield
His only defenses .
Vulnerable to human atrocities,
He struggles to survive.
Lumbering in despair,
To the brink of extinction.
Capall
My steps are thunder
To confirm my presence
Or else you'd wonder
If I were magic, or a spirit
That took your breathe
And ran away with it
With mighty legs
I'll endure the distance
Chasing my heart wherever it wishes
Try and tame me
If you dare
Only for love
Will I let you near
Grace is constant
As pulse is beating
I am the creature
Your soul is seeking
Across distant lands
To ocean shores
I'm a wild one
Forever more
Why be a bird?
A bird would be my choice
Not just for flight
Not just for voice
Although I'd love to tweet all day
Or fly high in the warm sun of May
I'd choose a bird for more than that
More than I'd chose a dog or cat
A dog or cat stay locked away
While birds spread their wings and fly all day.
The freedom they have to up and go
That's a feeling I'll never know
So that is why I'd be a bird, rarely seen but always heard.
