I stumbled upon a glimmering chest
Where the waves crashed, violently, to the sand
They dared me, those waves, to wade, try my best
To free the treasure from the ocean's hand
So, I dug, as tide ebbed, fled as it flowed
Tireless work, this freeing of gold treasure
By the end, day near done, setting sun glowed
I, now, exhausted beyond all measure
Bent to lift, with all my might, the gold chest
Cowered under the strain, pulled a muscle
In spasm re-learned what I oft' forget
Better not to be rich, but be humble
So, I left the chest there for another
Dug in my satchel for my pain relief
Thanked those who taught me, father and mother
Humility, not wealth, rules. That's my belief
