Megan glared at Riley. "No."
Riley's desperate blue eyes fastened on her ex-best friend's brown ones. "Megan, if I don't have that fifty dollars by tomorrow...I have five children, and it's winter!"
Megan wasn't budging. "I said, no. What do you think I meant by it the first time?"
Tears fell freely from Riley's anguished eyes as she sobbed. "I don't have a job! I can't earn that money! My parents disowned me for leaving the Muslim religion. What am I supposed to do?!"
"Earn the money," Megan snapped, unmoved by her tears.
Riley continue to cry, letting her head fall into her hands. How had life gotten this bad?! When had her friend stopped being there for her?! Why had God taken her husband?! Why did her parents hate her so much?!
Megan, uncaring, turned and walked away, knowing that when the morning came, Riley and her five children would be thrown out onto the streets of New York City to fend for themselves. The thought didn't bother her at all.
