David and Mark.
David walked up to Mark's desk, and said "Happy Birthday!"
"It's not my birthday." replied Mark, perplexed.
"It's definitely your birthday." "said David, most assuredly. David is six foot nine inches tall, and is as huge as an Olympic weightlifter. He is twenty years old, but has the mind of a child. He was holding a cake, and wearing a silly paper hat.
"Give me a calendar and I will prove it to- oh. Nevermind. Happy Birthday to me." said Mark, and he took the cake from David and placed it on his desk. David then placeed a silly hat on him. Mark was forty-two. He was David's parents' attorney, and he was a close friend of theirs until their death last year. They knew their son could not take care of himself much less the family business, so they appointed Mark to be his guardian. Technically David inherited everything, but Mark administers it and makes all of the decisions. Mark dropped all of his other clients and moved in with David, who was now his one and only client for life.
"And it's my birthday too! It's both of our birthdays! You moved in here a year ago today!" said David, gleefully.
"That is called an anniversary, not a birthday, but I suppose one can consider it a subtle distinction." Mark took a bite of the cake. It tasted like bitter ashes; like dry cocoa with salt instead of sugar. It was amazing how something so dry could still retain the shape of a cake without blowing away like dust.
"I baked it myself!"Said David, with so much pride bubbling up inside of him that it escaped as a giggle.
"David, you are not supposed to use the oven yourself. You know that." Mark scolded David for his disobedience.
"But I figured it out, and I did good!" said David, still beaming with pride.
"I don't even want to think about what the kitchen looks like now- thankfully, the housekeeper comes in today." said Mark.
"Yeah! Miss Nelly!" said David. He does not leave the mansion much, so he has contact with very few people.
"I doubt Miss Nelly will be as happy to see the kitchen are you are to see her." said Mark.
David was slightly downcast. "I will go clean it now before she gets here."
"No, that is not necessary." said Mark, afraid he will just make it worse. "Today is your upper body workout day ,right? How about you go to the gym, and lift some weights."
"Yeah! I like to pick things up and put them down!" said David as he left the room. He learned that line from the TV commercial, but he had no idea they were making fun of people like him. Mark of course would never tell him that.
Mark returned his attention to the factory's weekly report.
