St. Patrick’s Day Reflections (Spoken Word / Free Verse)
(Shameless cross-post from my Tumblr.)
I sat down to a bowl of Lucky Charms.
A St. Patrick’s Day tradition for my home.
I don’t even like them.
I bought the box just for this–no coupons.
It’s my only chance to best an Irish sprite.
But these pots of gold are marshmallows.
Should I put down my spoon and go grab something green?
Probably, but I’m not seven.
Can people even pinch in public anymore?
I sure hope not. We’ve progressed.
What if bank tellers are stuck in arcane, pinching ways?
Green is not my color.
I’d rather honor the Irish on some other day.
A quiet moment to reflect on things St. Patrick did.
Like that time he chased away all the snakes in Ireland.
Not a day for drinking stuff dyed green until you puke.
What’s the deal with that?
The quiet snake thing would be better.
My Lucky Charms are soggy now.
The pots of gold… dissolved.
There’s a quarter I’m never getting back.
Be safe out there this St. Patrick’s Day.
No pinching or puking, please.
At least not anywhere near me.
