How Prose Can Become Better
Prose is an amazing site that allows you to inspire and be inspired. You can give and get feedback, shaping and developing your writing style. And the best part? It doesn’t cost you anything!
As my father said, there’s always room or improvement. Prose is no different.
One thing that could really stand to be fixed is the (not so) slight problem of challenges not showing up. I’ve missed out on a lot of great prompts because I couldn’t see them! I’m not sure what’s causing it, but it’s certianly something I think the Prose team should look into.
I’m really glad they brought back the weekly Prose challenges and e-mail; I look forward to them. Prose needs to do a little more getting in touch with their users, and they’ve certainly been making an effort. For example, doing more things like this--asking for our opinions.
I really appreciate @danceinsilence’s virtual creative writing workshop. And while I know Prose doesn’t have time to be posting every day or whatnot, maybe they could do a couple posts with writing tips? Or at least provide some links or informational videos.
While I’ve never been a huge fan of group chats, maybe Prose should tweak the messaging so you can have a conversation with two or more Prosers at a time. (Though I hate getting messages that were meant for the other people in the chats!)
The last thing...a simple spellchecker for when you're writing on Prose. Not something that checks verb tenses or finds fragments, etc., just something simple that lets me know if I've misspelled a word.
All in all, I love, love, love, LOVE Prose. But like my dad said...There’s always room for improvement!

Why Prose?
First off, Prose is a really great platform to write freely without the restrictions of a place where publishing takes a while. On several other sites, it might take weeks to get a piece published. On this site, you can publish your pieces and enter challenges instantly.
Also, challenges! I enjoy them so much! Challenges are great when you have writers block, and I’ve started to scroll down the challenge tab to find something that might cure my block and it has worked.
The writing community on Prose is fantastic, too. You write, get feedback, usually very helpful reviews and feedback in the comments. There is virtually no hatred between users that I’ve seen escalate.
All in all, it’s an amazing way to express what you might not to people out loud. You can stay anonymous, you can be out in the open, you can share your feelings, your thoughts, your dreams and your words with people everywhere.
Improvements?
I’ve read several posts about ads being removed, which I don’t think is necessary (because it does take a lot to run a site like this and ads are a way to generate revenue and keep it up and running), but I believe at least not putting them in the middle of writing pieces would be very helpful. It disrupts the flow of reading. I don’t mind them elsewhere, when they’re in between posts.
Since I love challenges so much, I think there may be a better way to organize them. Maybe there can be a separate space for the challenge of the week, so it’s more apparent. Maybe challenges created by people you follow could come up in your stream. Maybe when someone enters a challenge you created you could get a notification. Just some thoughts!
Overall, I’m glad to use Prose and be a part of the website. My writing has improved and I am starting to fall deeper in love with it. Thank you for being awesome!
