History in flames
The spire was the first to go,
buckling like a horrid light show.
History dissolving into ash
Before our very eyes
Thanks to media the whole world knows
Within a few minutes of disaster.
A cultural icon fading like a ghost
Notre Dame in trouble when
Folks need it the most.
Holy Week. The week before Easter.
For me I’d say my Easter was cursed
For the cathedral is burning down.
Forget London Bridge.
The cultural icon of France is falling down,
My fair lady.
Some stats.
Two times as many people visit Notre Dame than the Eiffel Tower.
This place of sanctuary, it’s beauty and glory
Is burning down
Into an ashy mess.
History is in flames before our eyes,
So why do I feel as though
We’ve seen this before?
You Are My Moonlight
Of all the times when I would go out
Shield my eyes from the burning sun
Searching for a glimpse of your face
But you’ve turned and gone away.
You are my moonlight, my dearest moonlight
You bring me joy on the darkest nights
You’ll never know, dear, how much I miss you
Without you I’ll give up the fight.
I will be waiting, forever waiting
To see you running home again
But you’ve gone where I cannot follow
And left me standing behind.
You are my moonlight, my dearest moonlight
You bring me joy on the darkest nights
You’ll never know, dear, how much I miss you
Without you I’ll give up the fight.
You told me once, dear, you’d never leave me
We’d be together forever more
But now you’ve left me and I can’t find you
Please, won’t you take the pain away?
You are my moonlight, my dearest moonlight
You bring me joy on the darkest nights
You’ll never know, dear, how much I miss you
Without you I’ll give up the fight.
In my mind you’re still right beside me
Holding my hand with a bright smile
If you would come back, if just for one day
My shattered heart could feel some peace.
You are my moonlight, my dearest moonlight
You bring me joy on the darkest nights
You’ll never know, dear, how much I miss you
Without you I’ll give up the fight.
Choked
I strode across
That field of green
To find you gone
Choked strangled and killed by doubt
A doubt of your true intentions
But I won’t deny
I watched you die
All for the love
Of personal gain
And the worst part
Is I don’t regret
Letting you choke
On a plastic rope
Hung from the branches
Of a tree that you nurtured your whole life
Phoenix
Get off your knees, child. Death is not ready for you. You do not belong here.
You have only this life to live. You have to walk through fire to get what you want, so stop waiting.
Whether the time is perfect or whether it feels off, you only have right now. You're going to burn either way, you might as well face it.
You can't move forward without action. Stop letting fear dictate your experiences in life and stop begging for an end while desperately searching for a new beginning.
You might surprise yourself with how far you can go just by embracing the flames as they push you forward instead of blaming them for holding you back.
