Summer Afternoon
Wandering along,
I stop and stare,
At the sunny horizon spanning in front of me,
Endless,
Stretching on for ever and ever.
Everything slows to a stop,
The clouds roll in,
As the rain begins to fall,
Slowly at first,
Then suddenly,
Pouring down on everything in sight.
First it hits the houses pitter-pattering on the roofs,
When it hits the trees,
The branches shake and spray the water down,
On to me,
On to others walking by,
On to cars where whipers brush the water away,
Into the street.
Just like that,
The rain is done,
No longer falling down upon me,
Gone from the sky,
But not yet gone from sight.
Droplets slide off leaves,
Umbrellas of passersby,
They roll down the street,
Down drains and off of cars,
And off of me as I stand still,
Watching the rain disappear,
as if it were all a dream.
Water Churning Red
There's blood everywhere;
missiles in the air
The boat we flipped
to hide behind
gave us away
they had seen us
and the blows began
the water churning red
as we each tried to run
soldiers falling around me
the scent of death
fills our heads
we can barely breathe
but we only see the shore
the barricade we implore
hide us, hide us please--
BOOM
my hearing went shrill
⠀⠀I screamed in agaony
⠀⠀⠀clutching my head
⠀⠀⠀⠀wobble toward the barricade
⠀⠀⠀I see my army
⠀falling around me
My eyesight
is going
blurry
⠀⠀⠀
and I see
⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀
⠀⠀only
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀
⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀darkness.
⠀⠀

I’m Reaching
Most people say they shoot for the stars and dream in the clouds. I'm tethered to the ground, bent over a well, straining for the specks that drift below in the dark mud water. Dreams don't send you high, they don't take you to dizzying heights of ecstasy. Not mine. It's dangling your arms over the barrier, contemplating if what you want is worth falling head-first into the unknown.
Because you know that those muddy specks in the well are not stars, and you could very well break your neck for a puddle.
The Awakening
In a cabin wrapped in snow, snowflakes melt upon my toe
Windows whistle melodies, vermillion embers softly glow.
As I rock upon my chair, sleepy embers start to flare,
Windows flap and shake their dresses, then a creak atop the stair.
What oddity is this? My relaxed hand becomes a fist
There's no one else inside this cabin. Yet I hear a subtle hiss.
Seeking comfort in my tea, my hands now shaking vigorously
Clasp the steaming porcelain and sense a cold atrocity .
Command my eyes to look away, although they fight and disobey.
Pupils creeping to the left witness smokey mists at play.
Shapeless figures gather round. I feel my chest begin to pound.
Like the embrace of iron chains, Doom has his hold upon me now.
Then a whisper in my ear tells me someone close is near,
asks me, "Where do children huddle", sends me waves of primal fear.
And I stop.
My fingers let my tea cup drop.
I stand without will.
And walk toward the window sill.
Outside I see a pile and I fear it's something vile
Alas, covered by snow. Curiosity does rile.
Shoeless and without shawl I run outside toward the stall.
I dig without a shovel 'til my fingers start to pall.
And pall is what I find of the most atrocious kind.
My own brood lay underneath and stabbing memory floods the mind.
The Traveler of the Dark
I am a traveler of the dark
Where I go I leave my mark
Where I stop I cannot stay long
For me to stay forever simply wrong
I roam from town and country
Of this year and the next century
I hold no lover, children, or friend
Yet I meet them all at the very end
I know not why I wander
I know I may never travel yonder
To the worlds of light and despair
Yet I travel with little care
I am the visitor of who you do not weep
When the time comes I bid you a kiss in your cold sleep
For him my heart beats
Walk with me
So I walked beside him
Laugh with me
So I made a joke and laughed with him
Smell the flowers with me
So I picked a tulip and enjoyed its' scent with him
Jog with me
So I put on my running shoes and paced myself with him
Cry with me
So tears fell silently from my chocolate orbs
Please hug me
So I embraced him
Tell me I am not broken
So I caressed his face and show him his strength
Tell me a lie
So I held his hand and told him a truth
Will you sit with me
So I sat with him from morning to darkness
Inspire me
So we climbed a mountain and made it to the top
Show me love
So I showed him an elderly couple on a romantic date
Kiss me
So I kissed him softly on his cheek
Lay with me
So I laid my head on his chest
Sleep with me
So I fell into a deep slumber beside him
I have to leave
Please don't go
Time is up
Please, not yet
I will see you soon
Please don't forget me
I could never...
Please...
You have to let me go
But, I can't
Do you love me
Since the day my heart beat changed its' rhythm
Move on...Live for me
How do I live without your presence on this earth
I'll always be with you
Don't...Don't go
The light is shining
Stay...
Kiss me
So I kissed him with so much passion
I will see you again
Goodbye, my love.
