Once Upon A Time;
In a kingdom far far away
a little girl wishes upon a star;
The prince would climb up the
tower; Rescue her from the
house mice nibbling on her toes;
Return to her the voice the sea witch stole.
But the prince feared heights,
and soon fell down and lost his sight;
The house mice were her only company; The
little girl no longer wanted her voice back;
The little girl was no princess;
Her feet too wide to fit the glass slipper;
Song too cruel to please the birds; Mirror Mirror
on the wall, she was far
from the most beautiful of them all.
once upon a time;
in a kingdom far far away;
a little girl watched the stars;
she only knew of beasts who hit her mom:
Monsters that preyed upon her adolescents;
Evil step-mothers that had no love for
her; Caged forever in her tower; No prince ever
to save her from the tale of the little
girl who's not a princess;
Happily Ever After.

Ringing woke me from my beauty sleep. As my eyes peered open, I grabbed my phone off my nightstand. Placing my phone against my ear, I sit up at wails from the other side.
"Mia?" I asked.
"Anna," my longtime friend cried. "Andrew is in the hospital,"
"What?" My heart stopped. The room I slept in distorted. There I stood in a hospital hallway. My stomach sank as I stare into one of the many rooms along the hall. Mia sat at Andrew's bedside on the floor. Arms splayed on the man lying on the bed. Face hiding within the blankets, refusing the truth. Her muffled cries drowned out my thoughts.
Before I knew it, I crawled toward her laying my hand on her shoulder. "It was alcoholic poisoning," she whimpered. My eyes squinted shut, and my nose scrunched. I should have known better.
They widen at her shrieks. Startled, I stumble backwards. Maya ran out the room. I was left alone with a motionless Andrew and the beeping sound of his life support.
Beep. Beep. Beep. Where is Mia? Why did she leave? Beep. Beep. Beep. My eyes searched the room and scoured the walls for answers. Beep. Beep. Beep. I counted the seconds.
Then silence. Water began streaming from my eyes, as my face contorted. Screams echoing.
help.
Shrieking cries rang through the streets. Children's screams permeated my ears. White noise enveloped me. Tires screeched on the roads, leaving the sound of thunder in their wake, like bees buzzing over a flower or fleeing from a bear.
My ears perked at the howls above me, one a booming shout, the other a pitchy cry. Their unharmonious wails piercing. The roaring white noise was deafening, the crackles of heat were all that remained, as the screams above me became more hushed to nonexistent.
There were no more shrieks. No screams. No thunder or buzz. Just white noise. The white noise was closing in, my gasps for air shallow, the crackling echoing. Bustling heat swallowed me. Then silence.
"Help me..."
