This week, we tackle a poetic classic, the sonnet. Your sonnet can be Petrarchan, Shakespearean, or if you're particularly brave, you can try your hand at some other avant-garde variation. We recommend you read a few sonnets before attempting your own. We'll be looking for sophistication, originality, and beauty.
A Single Second
i never knew how someone could be left without any words to say
until our eyes met and everything was suddenly right
and in that second, i had found my new favorite day
i felt the world suddenly become bright
in that second, everything around us disappeared
the world consisted of nothing but you
i can only describe the situation as weird
and as if by cue, it seems you saw me too
it felt like i had lived my entire life so far just to reach this
everything seemed to be perfectly in place
it was pure bliss
i was lost in space
i never thought i would give someone control over me
but when you gained control in a second, i knew it was meant to be
