Challenge
What do you think is the saddest and happiest time of the year?
Mosaic
Salted kernels of sadness
leave furrows on my cheeks,
sobs in my marrow
sighing for release.
Holiday season -
a sigh of laments,
remembering gentle touch
in recurring flashbacks.
Cascading waves
slamming on my mind,
tears on dust
leaving solemn footprints.
Waning candles burning,
dripping wax -
the loss of you.
I remember your walk
of smiles and adoration,
magical rhythms stirring
memories of joy.
Smoldering fires
linger in my heart,
warmth of whispers
of love not forgotten.
Far away sunsets
bathe my skin
with liquid gold.
I tuck your emerald eyes
into empty pockets.
Voices from past
will not be stilled
shining because
they’ve seen
the darkness.
