I wonder
You went into the desert
and left a dead ten year old tortoise there
I wonder if there was some mystery behind it
And I wonder if you cried
I wonder if your tears
revived the dead sands of time
or if you were thinking about your life.
I wonder if that tortoise was a witness
Of the nights I was honored
to get a little closer to you.
I wonder if the sun awoke you
From some kind of slumber.
I wonder if your car was for a moment
a horse running through the sand and wind
So you could take a friend
To its last good bye.
You went into the dessert
And shed so many layers
Are you still being you
Or is it just the sand that got into your heart?
I wonder if you wonder
I wonder about you.
I'm thinking about thinking about you
You're just like a whirlwind of dust and heat
I can see you running to the dessert
trying to find some old ruins
of who you used to be,
Ozymandias glorious and powerful.
But now only your feet remain
How is it that you are you
Someone so mysterious
Someone so strong but little as a grain of sand
I wonder if you wrote your name
The reflection of mine
In the sand of time
I wonder if your old friend
Was the last witness to account I cherished you
So blindly, so fondly
For the very first time
I wonder if you'll ever find another
Reason to keep smiling
I wonder if the sun illuminated
Your tiger's eyes
I wonder if your eyes were as vivid as they use to be
I wonder if you wondered about me
While you see our names carried away
In the sands of a lonely desert
Where you took a friend to sleep.
