Marriage Day
She started to dream, and if that wasn't bad enough in a nation that despised and killed anyone who had even a single trace of imagination, the dream was about how she would die the following Tuesday. The nation was a horrific terrible place where boys were convinced to be men at such an early age. While women were being taught to marry and populate the nation at age 8 and marry at age 13. The marrying process was very bad, people would say who the person should marry, vote on it, and then they were assigned to each other as "Soul Mates" for the rest of their lives together. Nobody could promise anything, friends couldn't be trusted, and "wives" and "husbands" didn't love each other until they were around 16-17 where the punishment was death to both if one was in an affair with someone else's wife or if they got in a argument the therapist couldn't fix.
Most couples were forced to deal with each other over time because they didn't want to die. Evelyn was the one who was "cursed" with this dream, and today was what everyone called choosing day. It was when all the 13 year old's were assigned to the spouses. It was normal very depressing for the students but they were forced to smile, and the adults of the kids were holding cupping their hands over their mouths or foreheads.
"Lily to John"
"Loris to Tommy"
"Kate to Ricky"
"Sophia to Nicolas"
"Emma to Mason"
"Ava to Lucas"
The announcers continued to rotate who said who and then they said.
"And finally, Evelyn to J-" The microphone cut out and you could only see the announcer's lips moving, but Evelyn heard the best thing in her whole life, she was positive the announcer said Jackson, a brown haired boy with hazel eyes she had a crush on when she was eleven. The announcer slapped the microphone a couple time and continued to say "Jacksmith" Evelyn's face fell as a boy's head popped out and said
"But I'm already assigned to Lilian"
"Opps, I meant to say Jacksmith your to Jackson" The announcer said. Jackson's head popped out and said "But we're both guys"
"Oh no that can't be right" The announcer continued "Evelyn to Jackson and Lilian to Jacksmith, yeah that's right" As she finished two men in black walked out from behind and shot her in the head. Nobody looked surprised since it was something that happened so often, instead smiles grew on the adult's faces as they congratulated their children on their spouse. Evelyn's face beamed as she hugged her parents and in-laws, Jackson walked up and lifted her above him then lowered her and kissed. Evelyn's eyes opened and she willingly kissed back. He offered to take her by the hand to the celebration and she accepted they walked on the sidewalk to the best part of wedding day, The after party, she could see the giant white pavilion set up that was only for the newlyweds. When they were about 2 blocks away from the party tent Jackson made a sharp left turn and kissed her straight on the lips.
"I'm a very lucky guy"
"Why?" she asked.
"Cause I was gonna kiss you if I got you or not."
"But they would of killed y..."
"I know" He interrupted. "I wanted you to be my wife or else I would of died with just a kiss"
