Giving
I give to homeless people. Not all the time, I have mouths to feed too, but if I can, I will. Usually right after payday, when I know I can afford it. Like yesterday.
Yesterday I bought a hot chocolate and a cake pop and gave it to a tiny older lady huddled outside the food store with her begging sign. I also gave her four dollars cash. It was all the cash I had on me.
This maybe uncharitable but I’m choosey about who I give to. I have a tendency to look past the youngsters and give to the old folks that sit on the streets.
I squatted in front of this tiny huddled woman, and I told her I bought her a hot chocolate and a cake pop. She looked confused like she was trying to remember where she knew me from.
“Cake pop?” She repeated.
“I also have some cash for you,” her eyes alerted to this and she reached for the bills I was offering.
“Sorry I smoke,” she mumbled, pulling the cash from my hand.
“No worries.” I said. Happier Holidaze.
No apologies sister human.
If I was begging out an existence in front of the food store I’d probably be smoking ciggies too.
We are sisters, her and I. Maybe in another dimension she is showing me care and human connection.
I hope someone would.
