Chapter 5 Who and What Happened
My mom gathered up her bag and headed downstairs to the main floor. Flicka and I followed her down. All 3 of us headed out of the school and loaded into the silver dually. My mom started the dually, so it could be cool by the time my father got out here to the dually. After about 10 minutes of silence, my father came out to the dually. He opens the door and sits down. We all buckle up and my mom pulls out of the parking lot and we start heading down the road back to home. Flicka and I were so excited. We got about a mile or two away from the school when a Blue Ford Fusion car t-Boned us. It rolled the dually into the ditch. It landed upright, and my mom and Dad got out of the dually to see who ran into us. All I could see was a mane and I immediately knew it was the Mad Mane Maker. My mom and dad screamed and then it all went silent. I unbuckled and got out of the dually. I helped Flicka unbuckle and she got out. I looked to see if anyone had seen what happened. I didn’t even see a tumbleweed insight. All I saw was the ruined Dually in the ditch and the totaled blue Ford Fusion car.
I grabbed my now empty book bag and set it on my back. I also picked up my wooden box and put it in my book bag.
“Come on, Vizzie. Let’s get you to a hospital. I mean, I am not hurt. U are, though.” Flicka says.
I looked down, felt my forehead and above my eye. I bring my foot back down and looked at my paw.
“Let's go. It's right above my eye.” I said.
Flicka and I head toward the Norvajak Care Hospital. We got there and went in. We got my injury stitched up and left the room.
“I have a bad feeling that we are being followed by someone or something.” I said as I look around at the halls. I saw there was a lot of blood all over the walls.
“Don’t worry, Vizzie. I have the same feeling as you do.” Flicka says as she looks around. We walked very cautiously down the hall.
After a couple of minutes, we looked through a glass door and saw a doctor with his feathers all ruffled. He lifted his head and I noticed he was a Vampire Eagle. He looked at us and licked his beak.
Flicka said, “Run! We need to run, now! Run as fast as you can!”
So, we took off and ran as fast as we could go. The Vampire Eagle chased us until we got outside. We hid in the bushes as he looked for us. After a few minutes, he flew back inside the hospital. We came out of hiding and I saw something shiny on the ground. I picked it up with my talons and smiled.
“I found the Garnet Jewel. We now have 11 more Jewels to find.” I said as I put it in a wooden box that I was given. I put the wooden box into my book bag.
“Cool. Do you know what the next Jewel is that we need to find?” Flicka asked me as we looked around.
“Let me think. Hmmmm. We need to find the Amethyst Jewel next. I don’t know where to find it though.” I said as I look at Flicka and sigh.
“Let us get going. I might have an idea of where it might be.” Flicka says with a smile.
“Oh? Where would that be?” I asked Flicka.
“If I remember right, it might be at the First Beauty Baptist Church,” Flicka says.
“Let’s not wait out here any longer. I have a feeling he’s waiting for us as an appetizer.
"Well, what are we waiting for? Lead the way, Flicka.” I said with a smile as I looked at her. She looked back at me and smiled.
We started North and turned toward the West on Sycanroa Street toward a large brown brick building. I looked at the building and stared at it in awe. It was breathtaking. I never heard of this place before. Flicka looked up at the cross on the building and examined the cross.
“It’s up there, Vizzie,” Flicka says to me. I look up and see something glitter up there.
“You are correct. It looks to be an Amethyst.” I said as I backed up a little bit.
I took a running start and just started soaring upward toward the cross. I held my talons out and headed toward the cross. I grabbed the Jewel as I flew by and I landed. I folded my wings and looked at Flicka. I grabbed the wooden box and put the Amethyst Jewel in with the Garnet Jewel.
“That’s two of 12 Jewels,” I said.
“Yep. 10 more to go. I’m hoping the other 10 will be easy like these 2 were.” Flicka says.
“Me too, Flicka, me too,” I said.
We walked to an abandoned home and slept in there for the night. It was alright but, we had to sleep before the journey to the towns of Namagadia and Slamagodonnia. They are like right next to each other. Flicka laid on the bed and slept. I slept on the couch. I woke up a few hours later to clanging in the kitchen. I got up and walked over carefully. They rushed past and left before I could get a good look at him.
‘Oh well. At least he’s gone.’ I thought to myself.
I walked back to the couch and slept on it for the rest of the night. After a long night and some well-deserved rest, we got up and headed outside. We ate some of the grass in the yard and headed Southeast toward the town of Namagadia.
