Meant To Be Mine?
Deep, deep devotion
Love so pure
Gone wrong
Wanting the best for another
Yet they turn their backs
Once they get what they want
Am I the perpetrator?
Am I the bully?
I gave you so much love
and devotion
and love
Pouring myself into you
our souls intermingling
But then you shut the door
Slam it
d e s e r t m e
What did I do wrong?
What can I do to win you back
Here is more of myself.
Take it.
take it.
TAKE IT
My love for you still burns
it grows stronger and stronger everyday
Maybe soon you'll notice
that everything I've done
Everything I did
Everything I'm going to do
was all for you.
Because you are meant to be mine

"Meant To Be Yours" from Heathers the Musical, animated by MissyAsylum on YouTube.
I have a HUGE infatuation with the character of JD who, yes, did murder many people, but out of blind devotion to Veronica. It's really easy to get so invested in someone that you forget who you are until you suddenly realize that they are gone and you are empty. Nothing without them. Possession of another person (especially physically/forcefully) is WRONG. Please don't misread my poem. But the concept itself is very intriguing. The idea that there's a "soulmate" or "one person" for you, and that if you miss them then they are gone forever and you'll be alone puts a lot of responsibility on our shoulders as humans.
So what would you do? What depths would you go to to keep that ONE person in your life, no matter the stakes or consequences?
Oh, humanity. Such a strange world we live in.
