Unlikely

World peace would have to be described as a lack of violent conflicts between groups. Whereas this is unlikely, any definition that gets more specific would be impossible. People like to believe that it's possible, that there is some time in the future when mankind can put aside their differences and be a united front. In the movies it's usually achieved by some catastrophe. I however believe that even if alien invaders came and tried to annihilate us, humans would still be divided. There would be pacifist groups against fighting them, submissive groups who decide to live as collaborators or even pets and of course the groups who would fight them to their final breath. Despite all this there is one way I see world peace as being possible, if we take human emotion out of the equation. This could be done either by brainwashing the entire species or extinction. This I know is a very dark viewpoint but as long as there are differing opinions there will be conflict and as long as there is conflict, world peace is only a dream.
