You were there

when I went to bed

last night,

by my side,

hand in hand;

when I woke,

you were gone,

hidden perhaps,

within layers

of fog and mist,

though your hand

was still in mine.

You looked at me

from within

the murky depths

of your confusion

your eyes

vague and lost -

Mama

you said,

no darling,

it’s me,

your wife.
