Excerpt from my Merlin fan fiction
Aged about 5-6 years and modified over time :P
Gwaine got up from his place to gather more fire logs, as he got up Robin turned to Iseldir and tried to follow Gwaine but Isledir gave him one daring look and he sat down. Although he remained seated Isledir looked worried when they were left alone with Merlin.
A little bit frustrated and scared Robin said ‘We could have gone with him but you had to stop me’. ‘I'm your chief, you shouldn't be questioning me like that’ said Iseldir with a little huff. He looked back at Merlin and said ‘Robin you must have faith’, he looked tired. He was already scared to even think of how it would be to suffer the wrath of Emrys who basically was weak and in need of care, along with this he had to deal with a young druid who was quite impatient. Yet Robin had to be there as he was young and of course being a druid he understood the importance of Emrys in their lives. He might try to get along with him and help him overcome his grief and take his responsibilities as being the most powerful sorcerer ever and lead them as he was is destined to do.
“You are dragging us towards our deaths and you expect me to have faith” said Robin also looking at Merlin shaking his head in disbelief, he was out of words and didn't knew what else to say. Isledir was about to speak when he looked up and saw Gwaine with a handful of fire logs. They both got up and took some of the fire logs and helped him build the fire and the three sat next to it.
The whole situation was quite awkward without Merlin's participation to do all the explaining yet Isledir held on to his faith and spoke placing a log into the fire “your friend is weak, you should look after him”. Gwaine was staring at Merlin wondering what this was all about, he then turned his attention to Isledir sitting on his right side. “How did you kill Morgana?” asked Gwaine, he seemed quite calm but by looking at his expressions it was quite clear to Isledir sooner rather than later he had to deal with it. Isledir had lots to say, but he felt entirely speechless, gathering his strength as he tried to speak Gwaine said “don't! ...., don't come up with an excuse, I know, one of you killed her”. Not sure what else to say Isledir asked “how can you be so sure”?
‘Percival my friend here, he and I tried killing her but nothing happened, he stabbed her with a dagger but it appeared that she was completely unharmed’ said Gwaine in an effort to, defend himself and the knights. Understanding his curiosity over Morgana's death with a blank for an explanation Isledir tried to smile and said ‘because she was a high priestess, only the most powerful among the sorcerers could do such a thing’.
Leon, Percival and the other knights could clearly hear them and wondered if the sorcerer at Camlann had something to do with Morgana's death after all he helped them win the battle. Leon finally spoke up “Do you think that this sorcerer is the same who defeated the Saxon's army”, he knew that the druid was smart and he'll not get a straight answer. ‘Obviously you are here so...., I believe you must know that a sorcerer defeated them’ he said trying not to react. The druid knew that it wasn't exactly a good time to be hiding things and as much as possible the truth about Merlin should be revealed. At last he broke the silence by saying ‘we are not sure yet but we do believe that if a sorcerer can stand up against an entire army, then possibly he can kill a high priestess’.
Merlin was sleeping soundly, Gwaine went to check up on him and said looking around at the camp ‘he sleeps soundly and so shall we’. “Someone needs to keep a watch” said Leon as he gave Gwaine a stern look. “I will” said Gwaine, he turned back to look at Iseldir and Robin and said “both of you, rest for now and leave him to me”.
The knights arranged their bed rolls and laid down, and Gwaine went back and joined the druids. He talked to the druids about general things, half an hour went by and all went quiet and they assumed that the knights were fast asleep where as they were still wide awake listening to their every word. They didn't trust the druids and even Merlin who to them was, now no more than a stranger, not after all that they had witnessed, they knew they will not get the real picture so they pretended to be asleep.
