Challenge
A letter to the monster that lived under your bed as a child
Take it in any direction you want.
My Monster and Me
Why didn't you stop me
Why didn't you pull me under
Claw at my flesh
Scream at me to stop
Instead you hid under my bed
Like a coward
Every night I waited
Praying you would come
I watched you lurk in the shadows
Never speaking
Keeping your distance
Even as the blood trickled down
You stayed away
Too afraid to approach me
I begged you to take me away
But you turned your back on me
And that's when I saw it
A glimpse of who I feared
The familiar face
Paler than I remembered
All the life had gone from you
From me
From us
Why didn't you stop me
