his wings were made of wax

they tell stories of a boy whose father fashioned wings,

and said, be humble, son, you were not meant to fly.

they tell stories of his grin, of how he leapt,

then fell,

reaching for the sun.

they say, he was proud,

and it killed him.

but they forget:

before he fell, icarus flew.

Hemorrhage

If you’re walking toward no destination, do it with conviction.

For the water waves the flag and will not ask for your permission.

The sun pulls you under but the moon keeps you up top.

The early bird may catch the worm but it can’t catch the cop.

The world is burning down and all of us ignore the screams.

Through solace we can only find within our shattered dreams.

Amongst the Stardust

I found her lighting

the glistening rays of sunshine,

completely unique,

amongst the stardust of her peers.

She stands out amongst all

when she luminous with grace

like a painting hanging on a wall

mysterious, in every pencil trace.

She is my kryptonite—

the photosynthesis,

I live not without;

for she’s the source of my energy,

the powers of my beating heart.

Her eyes wage light

in such magnitude

which have purposes,

in various multitude;

for she’s a shining bright star,

I sought in the galaxy

that highly resides,

brightly with majesty

coming for you

watching you every day,

wrath festers in my blackened heart.

you act like your life is purely self-made,

but i was the one who let you have your fame.

and then there’s him, the one who mindlessly does everything you say.

he, the boy who gave all this a start.

we three were the bestest of friends, always at play.

so long ago, before you pushed me all the blame.

and i, for taking the lifelong sentence without a fray,

didn’t ever consider that you could be trying to outsmart.

when we heard the news that day, of the blood shed from our sharp blade,

we three, being “young and innocent,” created a frame.

i was the one to pay.

both of you were the ones to pass right under the poisonous dart.

alas, your love declarations for one another had just been made,

and to separate true love would be an unforgivable shame.

and when i came back from that horrible place of grey,

you appeared to have forgotten what i had done for you and your sweetheart.

funny, it was. for you to have decided to simply fade.

when he went along so easily, i furiously realized your whole game.

i now wander the halls alone, wondering whom you are next going to betray.

in the days of us, we made a wonderful chart.

i wrote your names on that to-kill list and prayed

that you two will one day burn under my livid flame.

Water Bearer, on Scales, and Shoulder of Ram

Am I scripting this Horrorscope of mine?

with its time-warped masts orbiting full blast!

Or did Natal Stars steathily align?

and so inflate our Zodiacs as fast!?

...Must I become the water-bearer now...

and then...weighing draughts anyone can take

from, and welcome, as ladlefuls of “Ciao!”?

Am I myself the Haruspex who

through these entrails and barriers will graph

the course prescribed, still wondering lost, yet found

as a common, though Alien, space craft

who shall touchdown and infiltrate the ground?

...I’m not strong-enough to abdicate the task

...I draw water... why? cautiously I ask...

i taped a smile to my face

You took the clear, wrapping tape

From our highest shelf.

Pressed it on my mouth's corners,

And did the same thing to yourself.

Forever dimples showing up

Keeping us from appearing hostile

People always like the feeling

Of someone forcing a smile.

Our skin is stretched upwards

A drooly line of depression

A curved slope of a

Predetermined expression.

But when we return home

And our tape has worn away

Our true emotions can spill

After a fake, selfless day.

The tape has stained my face now

And I'm left with streaks of tears

But I'm happy you've been thinking

I was happy, for all these years.

In my last challenge, it was to write a micro-poem ... this time, it's a little harder ... write a mini micro-poem, consisting of no more than 55 characters of which include all letters, numbers, symbols, punctuation, and spaces between words (The title and return/enter key does not count.)
This can be on any topic, but anything over 55 would be classed a a micro poem, not a mini micro-pem. Make sure you tag me so I can read what you have written and don't forget to tag me this way: @Danceinsilence, otherwise I may never see it. (NOTE: Add at least some additional words underneath in parens as it will not accept anything under 15 words.)

A new day, a new start.

Life is too short for a still broken heart.

The Witching Hour

Midnight strikes

The crow caws

Glowing eyes

They awaken
