Star of the Sea
A shining light
That reflects on the calm night sea
It’s the star or the moon
What else could it be?
My eyes chase her
As she dances in the naked blue sky
Her smile is so intoxicating
For she’s caught my eyes
She’s a shooting star I’d never seen
An exuberant petal flower bloom
I am keen to see her dance again
Under the stars and the night moon
I lay my head down for lucid dreams
And ponder when the night turns black
As I wait for the star of the sea to shine
For her bright smile to glow back

It Has Finally Happened
For over 55 years, I have delved, looked into, wondered and written about many things. From a birth to death, from love to hate, sadness to joy, and all points that intersect.
I have written so much, offered up advice to other writer's on how to publish, how to better their own writing, while all during this time, I kept my own writing, so to speak in the background, and for the longest time, unwilling to put myself out there for the world to see, other than here on Prose.
Today, that all comes to a screeching halt.
I have now officially put one of my collections of poetry on a website that distributes to several store fronts for sale. Scattered Thoughts, although it isn't the same Scattered Thoughts I am doing here (I have three Scattered Thoughts collections, hopefully that will take care of any confusion).
I have to give kudo's to a couple people, one being TW, for telling me about D2D (Draft to Digital). The site is easy to navigate and my collection, withiin less than 24 hours was listed with five store fronts. And will more than likely have more added by days end, and the days ahead.
Two others, Voidkin_Killer (who did the design cover for all the Scattered Thoughts and EstherFlowers1 for her contribution ... I couldn't have done this without your help.
So now, it's official, after probably writing a billion or more words in my lifetime (that's just a guess, don't take me literally), I can now say I am a published author.
Over the course of the next three months, I will put up the remaining Scattered Thoughts, as well as a collection of short stories and the first book of my Evil Series. From there it will vary as to what I will submit and when.
It's a good feeling and now comes my shameless plug.
If you like what I write, then I am sure you will like what is in this collection. It's only $2.99. This is the link and right now you have several options with whch store front to purchase from. That can all be found here: https://books2read.com/u/bpzXMk
So I say to all of you writer's and poet's, if you have ever had the thought to make a dream you have come true, this is one of those times when you can finally crosss that threshold and make it a reality. This link can change your life, or at least get you started in the direction you have privately thought about. https://www.draft2digital.com/
And while writing this two more store fronts have been added.
Life suddenly became better.
Flirting with time
She walks down the corner and waits by the clock
He steps from the minute hand, not sans tik tock
They bow to each other; he holds out his hand
She smiles and takes it, but their love’s still banned
They run round the corner and in through an arc
With hands on each other they dance through the dark
Her laughter is lightning that wakes up his heart
They dance round in circles; they’ve mastered the art
The hour is midnight, five hours til dawn
By then they’d stop dancing and he would be gone
she’s flirting with Time
...flirting with Time
She walks down the corner and waits by the clock
He steps out and greets her; they run down the block
They waltz through the hours in pulsating beat
The minutes are passing, no second repeats
Their eyes on each other, no time for a break
Her arms round his neck; no emotion opaque
Her head’s on his shoulder, her eyes on his lips
She leans back and twirls; they end in a dip
The minutes are slower when he brings her in
Their noses are touching; they’re skin against skin
she’s flirting with Time
...flirting with Time
Her scripts are not written; no, Time will not tell
the things that will happen when he says farewell
She’ll dance in the echos, count seconds til night
And Time will not fail her; he stays til it’s light
Her heart never broken; it is her first Time
but lovers are lovers and she’s chosen Time
she’s flirting with Time
... flirting with Time
Ummm I had the song “Snowman” by Sia stuck in my head while writing this, so if you are having a hard time reading this, read this using the rhythm of her chorus lines:
“Let’s go below zero and hide from the sun
I love you forever where we’ll have some fun
Yes, let’s hit the North Pole and live happily
Please don’t cry no tears now, it’s Christmas, baby
My snowman and me
My snowman and me”
(in my opinion, it sounds better while singing/humming it, but honestly doesn’t everything?)
On This Day: January 31st … Strange Holidays
Backward Day
Inspire Your Heart With An Art Day
National Hot Chocolate Day
I’m breaking out the hot chocolate as the weather here is turning colder and the fact it makes me feel good. Has anyone out there thought as I have that January just blew right by you at break necking speed? Busy month all the way around. Maybe Backward Day may let us travel back a few days to catch our breath—or not.
Let me get started.
Inspire Your Heart With An Art Day
Art is a thing that is in existence since the start of the human civilization. It is appreciated both for its beauty and happiness it gives to those who see it. There are different forms of arts like paintings, music, theatre, sculptures, dance or poetry and they are indeed to be celebrated with a Day in the calendar. Take time to visit the nearest gallery, theatre, cinema, music venue and get inspired.
The history, origin, and the year since the Inspire Your Heart With Art Day has been in the celebration are unknown. The founder is also not known. However, the celebration for art has been promoted by various arts organizations. The day is created to celebrate all forms of art and the effect it has on your heart. Explore the many genres of art as every form of art is valued and appreciated for every other reason. Art is a form of feel that inspires, encourages, and it touches one’s soul, heart, and mind. This day is the best time to have a closer look at the art and find what the artist is trying to say through it. Open up your mind and heart to listen to the art as it has the power to inspire our hearts.
Art refers to the diverse range of human activities including the painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, and other visual media. Creation of images or objects, visual arts marks the oldest documented forms of art. The archaeologists have found the first artefacts of human art, and it dates back to the Stone Age. Over the years, various art forms have developed. It is appreciated for a variety of reasons although it doesn’t have any practical value. Art let the person express his own imagination and creativity. It is also a form of communication that bridges the gap over the language barrier. Art plays a major role in various aspects like in the entertainment of therapy, for raising awareness and in evoking all sorts of emotions.
“The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.”—Pablo Picasso
National Hot Chocolate Day
We make hot cocoa with cocoa powder, heated milk or water, and sugar. We’re able to do this thanks to a process developed by father and son chemists. For the thicker, more flavorful beverage, we make hot chocolate from ground chocolate containing cocoa butter. It is also called drinking chocolate. Hot chocolate has also been around longer than hot cocoa. In the early 1800s, Casparus van Houten Sr. developed a process to separate the cocoa solids from the butter. His son, Coenraad Johannes made those fats more soluble in water. Together their processes made cocoa powder possible.
But before then, everyone drank hot chocolate. This thicker, creamier beverage often offered medicinal benefits for stomach ailments during the 19th century. In fact, long before the beverage’s popularity in Victorian times, it served in ceremonial culture.
However, humans have been drinking chocolate for a long time. The Mayans likely created the first chocolate beverage 2000 years ago. The Aztecs also included a cocoa beverage as an essential part of their culture by 1400 AD. When Europeans began exploring Central and South America, explorers brought chocolate and the beverage back with them to Europe from Mexico.
Did you know that there are health benefits to drinking hot chocolate. Cocoa contains significant amounts of antioxidants that may help prevent cancer. Studies have shown the flavonoids in chocolate may have a positive effect on arterial health and memory.
Start drinking more hot chocolate, people!
Backward Day
Backward Day is a day to do everything backwards. Use your imagination, and Backward Day can be lots of fun. It's especially popular with school aged kids.
Try writing backwards or reading backwards. Wear your shirt with the back in the front. Eat your meal, starting with dessert. Now that's what I call fun! Walk backwards, or talk backwards. Play a board game backwards, from the finish line to the start. Are you starting to get the picture!?
This day is limited only by your imagination.
Sarah Nicole Miller and Megan Emily Scott created Backwards Day on January 29, 1961. They were thinking about making arts and crafts, while milking cows on the Miller family farm, when the idea struck them. Later that evening, they sat down and made the rules. The idea got out amid the community, and on January 31, 1962, the first Backwards Day occurred. The two women were walking down the street, when they saw all the townspeople doing things backwards!
"There is progress whether ye are going forward or backward.
The thing is to move!"—Edward Cayce
More strange holidays are coming!
Over
I’m in the status
Between who I am and who I want to be
I’ve shifted skins
A snake done molting
I know this must be better
So why do I feel like I’ve lost?
I’ve hopped on the fast track to my dreams
But this train moves too fast for me
I cannot falter, or stop to breathe
Or I am left behind
Overwhelmed
Overworked
Over.
self-love
8 letters can’t hold
what it actually
is
yeah I can try,
stretch its meaning
through metaphors, similes,
and every little tool
in the literary toolkit
which I groaned at
since middle school
till now
but “Self-love’s a sun hopping between
life & death -- its tomb & womb
squared where your chest and belly rests”
doesn’t mean much,
might mean something to whoever wrote it
or for one or two pairs of eyes
or for none at all
yet still I try, and link
polar opposites with ampersands
& rend spines of sentences in ha--
border these fonts in magenta
and indigo, stroke them broad,
and hide underneath the lines
that didn’t make it through
instead of flat out saying
"Self-love's fucking hard
because how the hell
do you love someone
you really, really know;
and even then
tugging along beside it
is shame dense as the earth's core
while it crawls and coats over
each flaw and fault
like some starving gas"
because how the hell
does that sound any good
to the ears
