With each passing day...
With each passing day, I thank God that you’re here.
All my fears are erased everytime you draw near.
With each passing day, I grow more fond of your face,
And with every embrace I’m in the right place.
With each passing day, you surprise and delight.
Every word, every touch - a bright light through the night.
The Lifting Of a Star
A star was hung in the heavens by God,
And he deemed her perfect and bright.
Will all her might, she sparkled and shone,
A beacon lit through the night.
For many years the star lived in bliss,
Her rays reaching ’cross the galaxy.
But gradually, the star began to realize,
She was being pulled too hard by gravity.
Slowly at first, then all of a sudden,
The star plummeted out of the sky.
And when she hit Earth with a thud and a boom,
The star truly thought she had died.
But when the dust cleared, she looked all around,
And found herself very much alive.
Much to her horror, her light had gone out,
And she lamented that she had survived.
She travelled along, looking for help,
But didn’t have very much luck.
Until she encountered a happy young man,
Selling oddly strange things from the back of his truck.
He saw the star through the gathered crowd,
Took her hand and drew her near.
He handed her something that looked so familiar,
But her heart was too filled with fear.
But the man didn’t waver and led her forth,
Into a beautiful empty field.
And when the night fell, and all else was silent,
He helped her heart to heal.
Then he gave her once more that familiar thing,
That she’d been too afraid to embrace.
The light of a star bottled up and contained,
It’s glory dancing across her face.
And with a deep breath, she opened it up,
And let it carry her back to the night.
She grasped the boy’s hand and lifted him up,
And together they brightly took flight.
She wrapped him in the light he gifted to her,
So that it embraced him in dust and splendor.
And when he looked back, his eyes were a glow,
His own new light soft and tender.
They’re still in the sky - two twinkling stars,
Bound in orbit by one provision.
While one is alight, so shall the other be,
For where there is love, there shall never be division.
Never Let Go
Your heart beats with mine,
And our rhythym is magic,
Our drummers casting spells.
Your laugh flows with mine,
Our music warm and classic,
Oh, the stories our songs will tell.
No matter the hours,
That we spend together,
Time seems to melt away.
No matter the secrets,
That we tell each other,
Know I’ll love you anyway.
I need your love,
Like my lungs need air.
I need your love,
Like my soul needs prayer.
And when we’re together,
My heart’s free from despair.
My love, we’re forever,
I’m not going anywhere.
Just hold me close,
And never let go.
You never cross my mind,
’Cause it’s where you always stay.
My home is where you are.
You crossed your heart,
And swore you’d never stray,
You’re my wish on a shooting star.
I need your love,
Like my lungs need air.
I need your love,
Like my soul needs prayer.
And when we’re together,
My heart’s free from despair.
My love, we’re forever,
I’m not going anywhere.
Just hold me close,
And never let me forget,
The way it feels,
To be seen straight down to my soul.
Just hold me close,
And never let me regret,
The things in my life,
That led me to you -
The other half of my soul.
I need your love,
Like my lungs need air.
I need your love,
Like my soul needs prayer.
And we’ll be together,
Our hearts free from despair.
Our love is forever,
It’s not going anywhere.
So just hold me close,
And never let go.
My Heart Was a Poem
My heart was a poem,
That no one could read.
I kept it hidden away.
The words were too fragile,
The rhymes too untested,
Like it was freshly molded clay.
Then you came along,
With your eyes all a-smile,
And I let you take a peek.
And to my surprise,
You read every line,
And gently touched my cheek.
You smoothed all the bumps,
And filled in the cracks,
You helped my heart along.
You set me aflame,
And there in the fire,
I was once again made strong.
My heart is a poem,
That's written for you,
The words are soft and clever.
You gave me the notes,
That perfectly fit,
And now we'll sing forever.
I Promise
I promise to always love you -
Like the other half of my soul,
Like the air I breath,
Like the sun my world orbits around.
I promise to always see you -
As the kindest man I know,
As the smile that keeps me going,
As the eyes that found the real me.
I promise to always give you -
Days filled with fun and laughter,
Days filled with support and encouragement,
Days filled with kisses and “I love you’s”.
I promise to always say -
I need you the most,
I want you the most,
I love you the most.
Give Your Soul a Chance
It’s never a matter of rhyme over reason,
When deciding what to do.
It’s never a matter of heart or mind,
But a marriage of the two.
To be at peace within yourself,
You best establish balance.
And when the winds are whistling wild,
Give your soul some allowance.
Let it swing and shift and sail and soar,
Let it be stolen by the wind.
But tie a line around it tight,
So that you can reel it in.
Give it time to wander and wend it’s way,
Through pain and passion and pleasure.
Give it space to circle and take it all in,
Before you’re forced to measure.
The time will come when waters calm,
When clouds are wisps of cotton.
The days will stretch and shrink and sharpen,
And then one will end in a coffin.
Until that day dawns dourly before you,
Consider a backward glance,
To recall the things your soul took in,
When you decided to give it a chance.
