When I Find My Voice
I was watching America's Got Talent and when people sing on that show, they usually sing a certain type of song. So I got to thinking and I wrote the following anthem that I think would be perfect for someone who would appear on that show to sing.
WHEN I FIND MY VOICE
There was a time
I kept to myself
like a dusty old book
gathering dust on the shelf
I kept my passion inside me
and I nodded my head
I didn't speak out
what needed be said
I did all the things
I needed to do
Something started to burn
inside me that's true
I could no longer deny
That I had the right
to speak up for myself
and to join in the fight
When I find my voice
I'll shout it out loud
I'll make myself heard
above the noise of the crowd
and those that have doubt
they'll finally see
That I have the strength
Deep inside of me
And when that day comes
when I risk my heart
I can't be afraid
of it tearing apart
I will be sure
because I'll know the way
I'll make it all right
with the things that I say
Don’t Break the Silence
(I had an early generic Depeche Mode sound in my head when I was writing this)
Don't break the silence
Don't say a word
I don't want explainations
I don't want to be heard
I don't want to give excuses
I don't need to understand
You don't need me anymore
and you don't want to hold my hand
We live in a world so temporary
It changes with the wind and get's hammered by the waves
We live in a world so temporary
We've got to adapt or drown
Don't break the silence
Don't give your doubts a voice
We always have the means
We always have the choice
We're just not the same and that's okay
We'll wake up to face another day
We live in a world so temporary
It changes with the wind and get's hammered by the waves
We live in a world so temporary
We've got to adapt or drown
Goodbye to a love that's past
We don't have to make it last
It was good when it was here
But now it's gone away
We live in a world so temporary (Goodbye to a love that's past)
It changes with the wind and (We don't have to make it last)
get's hammered by the waves
We live in a world so temporary (It was good when it was here)
We've got to adapt or drown (But now it's gone away)
Shotgun
Vanessa walked down that old dirt road
and where she was going to no one knows
She show up at home the very next day
They asked her where she'd been but she never did say
with a goofy grin and her far away eyes
there's was something going on but it was no surprise
When the test came back with a hearty thumbs up
her daddy got his rifle and his old tin cup
He went out hunting for some lowdown scum
He looked high and low until he found that bum
who took his little girl on out for a ride
He was fuming and ready to tan that hide
Vanessa begged for mercy cause she loved him so
and he was stuck in the middle with no where to go
So he weighed his options and did the right thing
and soon Vanessa was wearing a ring
How deep is my love?
You look into my eyes
You get lost in my stare
You can't help but think
What is really there
You want to believe
What I tell you is true
That the things that I say
Are the things that I do
You'll never ever ask me
but you desperately need to know
How deep is my love?
How far does it go?
How much do I care?
And how can you know?
What do I think?
Is this meant to be?
what goes on inside?
When you lie next to me
You hold onto my hand
You get lost in my touch
The things that are small
Seem like so much
You want to believe
That my heart is pure
But you can't help but doubt
You want to be sure
You'll never ever ask me
but you desperately need to know
How deep is my love?
How far does it go?
How much do I care?
And how can you know?
What do I think?
Is this meant to be?
what goes on inside?
When you lie next to me
