Dire Straights
What if straight were the minority? That is a profound question, and I'll be upfront when I tell you it took some actual pondering on my part to come up with even half an answer. Let's get the first part out of the way so you can determine whether you want to read further or not.
I'm a straight white male who hasn't experienced every advantage, but I have been given more than most. I was raised in the bible belt, Oklahoma, to be specific. Football, cattle, and baptists. So I know all the hellfire and brimstone teachings, particularly the ones regarding homosexuality. These teachings stand out so vividly in my mind as the result of an extra-religious uncle who would constantly rant and rave on the subject to not just me but his wife and three kids. As it turns out, my uncle was overcompensating.
He was super gay the entire time, and if I'm honest, I liked him way more after he came out of the closet. And lucky for my uncle, I had ignored all his teachings. My rejection of his "lessons" was due to a pair of gay uncles on my dad's side. Uncle Steve and Uncle Jim. A couple of super cool, well-kempt, great-smelling dude's. I don't know what kind of cologne those guys spritzed on, but they didn't skimp on cost.
So before I make this anymore about me, and keeping my background in mind, I'd answer a question with a series of questions. Here we go.
Exactly how reversed would our current roles be in the world? Would it be the exact polar opposite regarding everyone's sexuality? In that world, would I be an 8-year-old gay kid sitting in the backseat of the car while one of my mom's awkwardly explained why my Aunt Stephanie and Uncle Jim sometimes kiss and hold hands around me?
Would I have a secretly straight uncle constantly espousing hateful views about his own sexuality? Would I be gay or straight in that world? Would any LGTBQ+ people still reading be straight? In that universe, would there be people holding signs in the street telling me I'm going to hell for being a straight person? Camp's to convert me from my straight ways?
I could go on and on, banging my head off a wall with these questions, but I won't. There are too many variables—for me at least—to even guess as to what society, and ultimately, the world would look like. The planet wouldn't be overpopulated, so maybe global warming wouldn't be a thing. Beyond that, I don't know how things would be. But there is one thing I would hope for that version of me in that world.
I would hope that in that world, I had the same influences I had in this one. People to teach me we don't hate just because someone is different and that I'm not better than any other sexuality or nationality. As an adult, I am far from perfect, but I can proudly say I'm not a hateful asshole. A regular, run-of-the-mill asshole? Yes. A hateful one? No. Regardless of the variables, I would hope I could say the same about myself in that world.
What if straight was a minority ?
If Straight was a minority then there would be less population as compared to today and population explosion wouldn’t even exist. If this was the case, then less people would be affected during any pandemic and the death rate would be low. But if we think about it today, it would seem pretty weird but we don’t know about the future. I think if there is less population , it would mean less pollution and more healthy humans. As a result the average age of humans may increase. But there is also a huge drawback that many people’s genes would end with their death. Less population may also result in increased standard of living in urban as well as rural areas. But overall it would affect the balance of human population, male-female ratio ,etc.
I personally think that i would keep the world as it is without changing it ^-^ .
challenge: if “straight” was the minority??
You’re buying deodorant. Your eyes examine the whole shelf, anti-perspirants, coconut and jasmine, lotus flower, 24-hours protection, invisible ice, aloe sensitive... you reach for your usual, and you deliberately don’t even look at the one at the end of the shelf, the Lynx Pride Limited Edition one with a black and white stripes, the heterosexual pride flag. A few years ago you would’ve been so excited - you would’ve bought it and kept the can long after it had gone empty, just to hype yourself up a little everytime you look at it, to feel like even your deodorant accepts you. Yeah, that would’ve been a few years ago. A few things have changed since then. Today you know how easy and cheap it is to paint a can of deodorant. There’s a special machine that paints like a thousand of them every minute, and in two months all of them are going to be thrown away, and nothing will change. It’s just a cash grab, no matter how much those old gays grumble about it. Don’t worry, your society is safe, you think to yourself bitterly as you walk to the till.
Straight hasn’t become normal, although the media paints a very different picture. Celebrities come out all the time now. When you were young, the only straights you saw on TV were caricatures and punchlines, and now they’re in every second show and series, in all shapes and sizes. They’re in political parties, even those whose supporters hate them. Every now and then historical figures are outed as old letters and memories resurface and turn the world on its head. It disturbs some people, it really does. They write countless articles about the destruction of traditional values, the dark threat to the lovely old family model, and, of course, the Church. The straights are painted simultaneously as blood-thirsty terrorists and sensitive snowflakes, who are somehow going to destroy all civilisation with memes on social media. Honestly, it’d be funny if it wasn’t so sad.
You’re home now, reading the news online. Right underneath the article about a fabulous pop singer who wasn’t afraid to kiss her boyfriend on a red carpet there is one about a mixed-gender couple who got beaten up on their way home from a nightclub. It reminds you of an incident from last year, when a teenage boy killed himself because of senseless bullying. It reminds you of the 2019 pride march that started with singing and dancing on the streets and ended 15 minutes later due to flying bricks. It reminds you that you need to keep some things to yourself for now - you can never tell your grandparents the truth about your own heart for fear that their “unconditional” love will leak out of their old faces in the blink of an eye, and your family will be torn apart. Then you scroll down a bit more and find an opinion piece about how watching straight people kiss in music videos degenerates children’s brains.
Something’s degenerating brains, for sure, but you’re pretty sure it’s not music videos.

What’s the “majority”?
If sexuality is a spectrum there’s not really a majority, right? More like a bell curve maybe, with a swell in the middle.
Frankly that swell in the middle is probably also bisexual with straight / gay (i.e. only attracted to a narrow definition of gender) on either end as extremes. Bisexuality makes more sense to me because it provides the flexibility to accept that anyone regardless of gender can meet your needs as a person - emotionally, romantically, sexually, etc. - and that baby-making needn’t be the end-all/be-all of relationships.
Now the baby makers might argue here “Well, we gotta make babies! You can’t beat biology!” Ah, but what if our biology is smart/adaptive on purpose? What would happen in an ecosystem where horny little critters developed thanks to the ability to have sex outside set mating cycles, but then hit a limit on the number of offspring they could feasibly support without destroying their resources needed to live? What then for their poor little overcharged sex drives? Maybe at that point having the ability for the population to shift as necessary would become a kinder environmental adaptation than simply allowing a bunch of horny breeders to overpopuate and destroy the planet due to their lack of libido control.
Just a thought. But hey, I’m team Bonobo, what do I know - I’m probably just another horny monkey :)
Also - how do we explain the prostate gland if we're all meant to be straight? I'm honestly curious here - somebody tell me why it's located where it is, please?

A, This promt is amazing. B, Here’s a list of things that might in prove.
1.) Over poulation is less of an issue, there not being as many stright people to have kids.
2.) LESS FUCKING HOMOPHOBES-
3.) If gay couples wanted kids, I would think they would have to adopt so less of children without homes.
4.) I feel like kids would be more comfortable in how they are growing up.
5.) Everything would just be fucking rainbows-
Now, a list of things that could get worse/stay the same.
1.) Heterophobia could imerge. (More than it already has.)
2.) Abusive people still exsist, so the fostercare system could still be in place.
I honestly can’t think of many downfalls, but we don’t live in a world where the “straight” are the minority.
Right now, just love yourself for who you are. Embrace your gay if you are, I guess.
Straight Edged Waterfront
The future is imminent
The seasons change with the weather
Not the other way around
And by the time the world stops turning
Upside down won’t begin to describe it
But it’s coming
Sure as the sky seems blue now
It’s coming
It’s not just one thing either
Everything changes
That’s the natural order of things: ever changing
And it’s the way it was written
There’s no way around it
Embrace it and know
It’s the way that things are meant to be
