Know your worth
I have been told this so much, I see it on social media a lot too.
I hate this saying. I KNOW my worth but I don't believe it. There's a difference between knowing something and believing something. And I know people are gonna be like "Well if you don't "believe your worth" than you don't truly know it.
The thing is, is I know I'm human and I deserve respect. I know I deserve someone who loves me unconditionally. I know I deserve someone who is gonna worry about whether I've eaten 2-3 times a day. I know I deserve to feel wanted and loved.
But, I don't believe I'm deserving of that. I don't believe I'm worth the time it takes out of someone's day to give me respect or to be loved or have someone worry about if I'm okay.
You can know your worth but knowing your worth does nothing when you don't believe it.
Is or Isn’t
"It is what it is" they say...
but how can that be
change can happen in a moment or in just a day
every situation can have a change of direction you see
Free from anchoring you down
the weight constricting your breath
the worry creating that constant frown
those moments from the dread of living in the now - that find you praying for death
With a new dawn comes a new beginning
Rejoice problem solved
Change of direction from living right or sinning
In a moment issue dissolved.
You are not without hope
You are not without fight
To the negativity hand up and a nope
Every night comes to an end and is overcome by the light.
It is what it is or is it?
You have power and fight within you
Let your fire get lit
You get to choose for you - what is and isn't true.
Run It Back
You know what they say....
An apple a day keeps the doctor away
But, the dentist comes out to play
Play on your gums
Like a drummer shredding the drum
So when the apple gets snared in your teeth
The flossing and drilling will make you kick your feet
No one will be saying, yo bro that's sweet
When the cavity can't handle any more treats
The toothache will hit you like a bus
Then you'll remember in God you trust
So run it back
An apple a day
Keeps the doctor away
Your IQ or your EQ ?
Which one will you use today.
A heart of gold.
The kindest souls lift eachother up,
They comfort when needed,
Motivate when asked to,
And help when others suffer,
These are the ones who hurt the most,
The ones who have no one there for them,
Spending countless nights alone,
Lost in thoughts no one wants to hear,
This makes them,
The ones who are said to have a"heart of gold".
Rotten.
You know what they say, right?
Eat this, eat that
"It will keep you healthy"
"You'll burn more carbs"
"It'll make you feel like you're twenty again"
Travel here, do that
"Go to Italy, you'll have the time of your life!"
"Make more memories"
"Have fun while you can"
Dress like this, or don't wear that
"That makes you look emo"
"Wear a tighter dress"
"Don't you want all the guys to look at you?"
"No."
"I don't want any of that"
But you know what they say right?
"Do it all while you can before it's too late"
This Too Shall Pass
No other phrase on Earth holds the same ability
to put me into a deeper anger nor a greater ease.
Like a balm spread onto a burn without warning.
Caressing fingers dancing over a slapped cheek.
The sting of ice pressed against a bitten tongue.
"This too shall pass."
An encouragement that could never feel more empty leaving the lips of a stranger
as they watch you suffer from a distance.
Meant as an assurance, to be sure,
yet it carries the distinct bitter aftertaste of a dismissal.
How dare they?
What gives them the right to act as though anything will ever be okay again?
And the worst part of it all,
the part that I am the most grateful for,
is that they usually end up being right.
You know what they say...
They say so many things
But who is They?
Have we put a label on "they" yet?
Are "they" those who set the rules?
Are "they" those who graduated school?
Are "they" those who sit behind the desk?
Are "they" those above the rest?
Are "they" your parents?
Maybe your peers?
The LGBQT labeled who "they" were.
But that isn't every one's "they".
So again who is "they"?
Should we really care what "they" have to say or said.
I like to believe they is always me because "they" don't keep me housed, paid, or fed!
I am they and they is me, when it comes to... u know what they say.
I don't know the world's they, only mine!
Next time "they" have something to say.. be sure the "they" is defined!!
