An angel in disguise
It was the best of times and the worst of times. Sitting in the Rio de Janerio airport at midnight with my newly-adopted seven-month old daughter and five-year-old son. All three of us in tears. This was an unexpected stop on our flight home. With three carry-on bags and totally exhausted children, I couldn’t fathom how we would get on the next flight.
That’s when an angel appeared, disguised as a very elderly man wearing what appeared to be a janitor’s uniform. He picked up our bags along with my son and nodded toward where the plane was boarding. A sympathetic flight attendant allowed him to get us to our seats as I constantly repeated one word -- gracias!
Fr❄zen
she was unbalanced and I the calm before the storm,
chaos ran through our blood like hot molten lava.
pain brought us together,
and love split us apart.
she offered me a cup full of dust
and I drained my heart of empty love and broken bones
chaos became our blood
she ran away
and I…frozen in place.
she was all dressed up
She was all dressed up with no one to love.
her heart wrapped in the torn fabric caused by sharp jagged fingernails and poisoned lips.
her tender soul was clothed in old rags and unfinished stories.
She was all dressed up with no one to love.
with lilies blooming in the spaces between her fingers and rose thorns for tears.
her unbreakable skin soaked with disappointment and nightmares.
she was all dressed up and holding the sun in the palm of her hand… Alone.
Secret Admirer
So certain I knew who'd sent the flowers with the anonymous love note, I went and told him apologetically it would never work. He just looked confused, then nodded toward my best friend standing there, as if that should mean something to me. It took some time, but I eventually figured it out. I’m now married to my best friend.
The Ancient Tree
Little children gigglin’,
Playing ev’r so happily
By the ancient tree
One slips by a root &
Kicks it with lots of force.
As the other children leave
The kid who kicked the tree
Snaps one of the twigs he finds
As soon as he does so— somethin’
Picks him up off the ground
The child is pulled inside the tree
With not enough air to breathe
He gasps and tries to jump~
But he’s then pulled much deeper
And further into the ancient tree.
An owl lands on a tree branch
It hoots and turns its head 360
The branch creaks, starts to shake
Giving the bird a hint to fly away
As for the kid, he found no exit
There his body lay trembling
Shaking, freezing, stuck underground
With no way out- the other kids
Had not noticed he was missin’!
Rest of the town knew not to harm
The Ancient Tree.

disappear
moonlight from the window
illuminated fingerprints
painted blood-stained glass
casted shadows intertwined
on the white concrete wall
her dark shadow i can’t erase
stone-paved road under the
bleeding soles of my bare feet
left a trail as red as her lipstick
leading to where the quiet sky
kissed the drunk waves of the
sapphire ocean under a galaxy
starlit depths of her shadow
my empty body dissolving
in cold waves crystals break
for her i’ll di s a p p e a r
dreaming in these waters
as i drown myself to life
