masquerade
ebony stars in a sable sky
wet my weary eyes
i long for you
my crimson dove
to brighten my world again
before you all was blues and greens
violet petals and sun
but since we met
my turncoat heart
bleeds black when you are gone
continue, wretched masquerade
char me through the wait
secret hearts
lovers' arts
a path of glass we tread
torrid, our sequestered love
clawing at my soul
senseless fears
bleeding tears
till tender lips console
i long to rip the veil, proclaim!
true hearts for all to see
two souls shine
ending repine
masquerade fading...to memory
Child
The child lies behind the mask
holding onto a silver flask,
She fears revealing light
as she hides in the warm night,
The stars cry golden tears
they want to take her from her fears,
Midnight approaches quick
the mask shatters on the brick,
Fractured glass glides
nowhere for the child to hide,
Her problems on display for all
she had no place in this ball.
At the ball
⚜
The mask looks good, a little crooked to the right... just need to straighten it up.
Hmm, perfect. She looks in the big mirror and admires her reflection. Her long brown curls cascading down her back. Just a little of it pinned up, to give her a more fierce look. She looks at herself from different sides and straitens her dark blue, velvet dress. The thin material fitting her lean figure perfectly.
This should do, she thinks to herself and smiles.
She leaves the impressive hall and steps into the grand ballroom. Lights and guests spread everywhere. She gazes calmly around. Smiles and laughter filling the enormous room.
I wonder if any of those smiles are real, authentic - she thinks, at the same time staring at at the colorful masks. Deciding the masquerade is a success. No one could really guess the identities of those honorable guests... some of them just actors, playing their role for the audience. But she knows who they are and what they are capable of.
And most of all, she knows what will happen tonight. What will happen just before the clock strikes midnight... She smiles pleasantly and picks up a glass of champagne from a tray. Nodding at the handsome waiter. He nods back and sends her a signal.
Her smile turns darker. It's time.
Let the party begin.
She takes a sip of the champagne, enjoying the little bubbles that tickle her throat and starts to walk into the crowd. Well, my fellow actors, this lovely play is about to have a different finish than expected. The lights dim slightly and the music starts to play.
An Orchestra starting a Walts. How classy... She looks to the sides, as a hand touches
her shoulder. Her mouth twitches as she recognizes the man behind the mask.
Well finally, I was just going to start without you...
You didn't think I was going to let you have all the fun, would you now?
They stare at each other in a moment of silence and then start to dance with soft grace, spinning around a stage full of false actors. Ready to take over this play. Prepared for an entirely different ending. The music carries gentle sounds of another song starting... the clock finally striking twelve... it's time.
Masquerade for One
At home, alone, she removed her mask
And tore away her pretty basque.
Revealing bone and empty eyes
Her ribs, her skull, her pearly guise.
And then, lovely as a child's prayer
A melody caressed the air.
Absently she hummed along
And smiled sincerely, the mask now gone.
Stepping down from off the shelf
Her heart began to sway
"May I have this dance" she asked herself
And so, she waltzed the night away.
The Extraction
In a suit tailored of multicolored cloth,
His unmasked presence prompted many to scoff
At the masquerade ball, where drink flowed in plenty.
Yet, with his pipe in hand, he won over many.
Politicians, they flocked, pores seeping petty lies
As each lyrical tune played heightened their pride.
Corruption and greed swirled in excess to the rhythm
As masks and inebriated stances blurred their vision.
Chasing tunes in staggered steps, they followed him out.
This colorful man, pipe in hand, held corruption en route
From the keep to the river, they stumbled in one by one.
The Pied Piper's sole pipe left to mark what he'd done.
Bloated bodies clogged the river, masked rats tossed about,
All, fear the Pied Piper lest he draw you out!

Would you care to Dance?
Would you care to dance?
I love the mask you are wearing
It looks so amazing
It jump starts my imagination
I want to examine it, your mask
all the intricate details captivate me
You have used it effectively to capture my attention
Now I want you to take it off
I want to see the real you
Are you afraid to take off your mask?
Are you afraid I wont find your real face as beautiful?
Will I recoil in horror when I find out who you really are?
Do you like my mask?
I put it on just for you
Does the mask I wear impress you?
Do you like all the intricate details I've carved into my mask?
Have I used it effectively to capture your attention?
Do you want me to take it off?
I can't wear my mask forever
Would you think my real face is just as beautiful?
The dance is just about over
You've been a delightful partner
When I take off my mask
will you recoil in horror when you find out who I really am?
