More Than Bargained For
Joshua and Carleton were in the woods one day, far away from home. In fact too far, for hasn’t their father warned them countless times about straying beyond the safe line?
“Go no further than two miles. There the safe line ends. To cross it, could mean great peril to your life.”
The boys on this day did the unthinkable and crossed the safe line and wandered into the woods and were having their own brand of fun. To them, it was laughable to watch small animals scatter about as they would hurl hand-size stones at them.
Even in school, they were pranksters, even trouble-makers. Twice they were both expelled for the deeds they did. One being, pouring water on the teacher’s chair just before she sat down. Another time, with a teacher’s back to them, they grabbed papers on his desk and set them afire.
Now, they would playfully terrorize innocent animals that do no man, woman or child, harm. The deer would flinch, jump and scurry off. The squirrels would hurriedly climb trees to be out of harms way. The birds would scatter their flocks for another place of comfort and quiet.
Twenty minutes of this and both Joshua and Carleton tired of their little game.
“Joshua, do you have your knife on you?”
“Yes. Why?”
“I think we grab a deer and cut it open. Besides, wouldn’t father be pleased if we brought home fresh meat?”
“He might be, but he will be angry if he ever finds out we crossed the safe line.”
“I agree, that’s why, if he asks, we were further west of the safe line instead and ran across an unsuspecting deer.’
He stopped speaking suddenly for a snapping of twigs was heard almost directly behind him and Carleton. Turning, he backed up, his right hand pressed against Carleton’s chest to make him do the same thing.
A large Alpine wolf was slowing heading toward them. Each boy grabbed their own knife and branded them in front of them in desperate bravado.
The wolf took two more steps before stopping, and then, before the boys very eyes, changed its appearance, and next they saw was a tall, beautiful woman with long dark tresses, deep black eyes holding no sparkle of amusement.
“I say to you now, you will not endanger another living thing again in my domain. If you do, I will feast on your hearts and scatter the rest of you across my lands for the animals to pick at.”
Joshua leaned over and whispered to Carleton, “Remember father telling us when we were much younger of the Wolf-Witch? This must be her, and to think, all this time I thought it a fable, father told us.”
“If what father told us is true. We should leave before she may change her mind.”
“Leave now, or you will be feasted upon as if you were a King’s meal.”
Both Joshua and Carleton walked a wide berth around the Witch-Wolf and just as they were but inches away from the forest to the clearing, the Witch-Wolf changed back into the Alpine Wolf and leaped upon them both.
The boys screamed and screamed until they could scream no longer.
The part Carleton referred to his father spoke about was, ”... and when she cries her demands, matters if you heed them or not, for her promise to release you is false. It is her game, and she always wins.”
The Alpine Wolf changed back to the Witch-Wolf, licked her lips, and for the first time that day, smiled.
“Throw rocks at my friends will you? No, I guess you can’t ... not any longer.”
Witch Cindarella
my name is cindarella and iam a witch
i come from normandy year 1066
when duke of normandy took the throne
during king harold's time england was
utterly full of witches and wizards
ah, but when william conqueror came
whole of englands witches and wizards
took mortal forms and began to live
amongst the mortals, faking their magic
pretending they were one of the mortals
one such story is about my children
they did not like being mortals and
often complained they cannot do magic
so i told them about mortal stories
about gnomes and pixies and alas,
my children got so excited that they
played often with the mortal children
but one sad day, one of my children
turned our neighbours dog into an elf
his ears pointed and nose protuding
every neighbour accused us of socerery
and i had to erase their memory and
i even had to erase their dogs memory
as dogs could even sense dark socerery!
The Tale of the Witch, the Dreki and the pond.
The two kids played near the pond. Leia and Sarun laughed. They loved being outdoors. Suddenly, they heard strong wings flapping close by. The young ones looked up to the sky. Way up high, gliding past clouds~ they witnessed the Dreki in flight.
Sarun whistled. Leia hit his shoulder. Why would he do that? The Dreki heard Sarun. Soon, it was circling around them. Leia yelled for help. They had not noticed that there was someone on the Dreki. The figure wore a long robe & her hair flowed about. The kids could hardly see who she was. When they did, they gulped.
In a matter of seconds, the Dreki’s mouth opened and ice blasts shot towards the children. The witch cackled. This would be a lesson to other kids to learn to get permission first before playing near her pond.
And if you ever happen to come across a pond area near a foggy, cold forest~ stay clear of that area- for if the witch finds you playing near her pond, & without asking...well, you’ll be turned into an icy statue.

Gwenavier
Lend me an ear.
I'll tell you a story of witch Gwenavier.
She's silly and old, and love to make sounds.
She throws things out the window when children come around.
She's younger than most witches about 502.
You will have no idea what she was about to do.
She decided one day to spy on the kids.
She peeps through windows and ducked behind trash lids.
When naughty kids act up, she would make it rain on their heads.
And the rain wouldn't stop until they went to bed.
Giving them another chance to be good the next day.
The rain would stop, so they could come out to play.
One little girl would never give her trouble.
She was friendly all the time, but she was scared of bubbles.
Why bubbles you ask, well here's the story.
She was given a valentine gift from a boy name Tory.
She opened the box, and a lot of bubbles came out.
And at the bottom of the box, she saw something that made her shout.
It was a magical unicorn crying because his horn was broken.
Tory had bought it from an arcade with all his tokens.
She felt so sorry for the little unicorn, she thought the bubbles had hurt him.
She took him out of the box, and in her hand, he went limb.
She was scared to death and didn't know what to do.
So she went across the street to take him to witch you-know-who.
She knocked at the door, not once but twice.
The door opened and she was escorted by mice.
Through the living room and around the corridor.
He wicked little witch was sitting on the floor.
She asked her if she could please help to fix her unicorn.
She offered to pay her with everything she was given since the day she was born.
The witch said no charge, and with the swing of her hand.
The little unicorn raised his head, grew a horn, and made a stand.
The little girl was happy and cried once more.
She said thank you to the witch, hugged her and walked out the door.
Every since then, Gwenavier was a different little witch.
She felt that every naughty child should make a switch.
From that day on her face was licked,
teaching little unicorn some new magic tricks.
Magnificent Witch named Nancy
Witch Nancy is the sister to Drake Greera. They used to live together until the Final Exams for Drake. After Drake left for Earth, Nancy started her witching. She gathered all her things from her room and left the home. She found an abandoned cabin in the woods and opened the door. On the inside, it looked like no one had lived in it for years. She cleaned the cabin up and set her things up in her new home. She started a fire in the fire place and smoke rose through the chimney. She stayed there, waiting for anyone to come and check the cabin. She got herself a pet raven that could talk.
A few years went by and Princess Opal, Prince Blood and Princess Jewel ran through the woods to check the abandoned cabin without their parents. They laughed and played until they saw a black raven.
"Help!! Help!! Attack, we were!! Help!! Help!!" The raven squaked.
The raven flew to the cabin and all three followed it there. The door was cracked open and the raven flew in. They heard crying coming from inside the cabin. They all walked in and saw Nancy on the ground, crying. The door shut behind them on its own, scaring them a little bit.
"Ma'am? Are ye alright?" Princess Opal asked Nancy as she knelt down.
"Y... Yes, your highness. I am fine, now." Nancy said as she sat up and the fire started roaring in the fireplace.
"What? A... A witch!! Stay away, ye fiend!!" Princess Jewel exclaimed.
"Very good, young one. Which one said it was a good idea to come and check the cabin?" Nancy asked as she gave a lollipop to Princess Jewel.
"T'was my idea, madam Nancy." Prince Blood snarled as he set Princess Jewel on the floor.
"Oh? Why did your father say no to coming and checking it, hmm?" Nancy asked as she glared at Prince Blood.
"He said not to check it because there was, or is now, a witch running loose." He said as he froze in place as he finished his sentence.
Nancy picked up Princess Jewel and started walking away from them.
"Give her back, ye fiend!!" Prince Blood yelled.
"I shan't hurt her yet. Your job right now is to be still and be quiet. She looks tired. I think she needs a nap." Nancy said as she disappeared around a corner.
Princess Opal tried to run, but the door was locked and she didn't know what to do. Nancy reappeared and smiled a wicked smile. She grabbed Princess Opal by the arm and took her and threw into a cage in the living room. She grabbed Prince Blood's shirt and ripped part of it off. She set it on the counter with some of Princess Jewel's clothing too. She wrote two notes in there hand writing and rolled them up. She tied the clothing scraps with them. She whispered to the raven, "Take these to King Tord and to King Dusty and leave the note also."
The raven left the cabin with both notes and clothings. Nancy put her hat on and turned toward Prince Blood.
"Enjoy your stay, dear Prince and Princesses!" Nancy said with a wicked smile.
Years went by and no one looked for them in the abandoned cabin. Prince Blood gave up the title "Prince" and started working for Nancy as her wood chopper. As he was about to chop the chuck of tree, a paper flew by his feet. He grabbed it and looked at it. He smiled when he saw that it said that they were missing. He folded the paper up and put it in his pocket. He chopped the chunk of tree and headed back into the cabin where he saw Opal cleaning the cabin and Jewel sitting in front of the fire. He saw no sign of Nancy in the cabin. He motioned the two girls over and showed them the "Missing" paper. They smiled and decided to escape after dark. Nancy came back after a couple of minutes with a scratch on her leg near her ankle, causing her to limp.
"Madam, witch. Art thou alright?" 'Prince' Blood asked as he helped her to a chair for her to sit down.
"Yes, Blood. I am alright. Please, leave me be now. Bed time for you three. 'Tis almost dark." Nancy said as she healed herself.
All three went to "bed" and laid there until it was about midnight. 'Prince' Blood stood up and searched for the raven. He didn't see any sign of it anywhere. 'Princess' Jewel and 'Princess' Opal got up and walked to the door. He did the same and touched the door handle. He opened the door and all three tip toed out and down the stairs. They stopped when they heard Nancy scream and laugh maniacally.
'Prince' Blood grabbed the axe and motioned the girls to stand there. He walked out into the open and Nancy saw him. She smiled and motioned him closer. He just stood there and smiled at her.
"Madam, I am going out to get more firewood and chop it because I cannot sleep." He said with a smile.
"No, you shan't. T'was dangerous during the day, but at night, it is more dangerous. Get them girls and you guys come here." Nancy said as she turned back to the cauldron that sat on the table.
He motioned the two girls to move behind him as he ran toward Nancy. He swung the axe. Nancy dodged and froze him still. The two girls stopped and looked at Nancy, scared.
"Come here, dear 'Princesses'. This is the night you shall go free and you mustn't tell anyone about your experiences here. Got it?" Nancy said as she walked to the front door and pushed them out.
The girls ran all the way home to their fathers.
"As for you!! You should no better than to run at me with an axe in hand after the hospitality I showed you three. What is this stubborn attitude you got, finally?" Nancy said with a scowl.
"I just now got the courage to stand up to you!!" He growled at her.
"You want to leave that bad? So, let us play then!!" Nancy said with a growl as she unfroze him.
He breathed hard and fast.
"Run." Nancy said with a smile.
He ran out the door and through the woods. She screamed and ran after him until he ran into the palace gates of his home. His family came out of the palace with guns and flame throwers. She backed away and went back to her home.
She was never heard from again. Or was she?
Love thy neighbor
During lunch period, Max, known as the class clown, told Jack and Jimmy he believes a witch has moved into the old Ramsey Victorian at the corner of Iris and Willow. Max said he was walking home minding his own business when he thought he saw a woman flying on a broom towards the old Ramsey place. He decided to investigate and walked over there, looked though the kitchen window to see a woman in classic witch garb, stirring a big black kettle, with a large ladle, on an old cast iron stove.
“Dude, her teeth are mostly black, she wears a pointy hat and she flys on a broom for Christ’s sake. And who knows what she was cooking in that pot with her boney fingers! She’s a bonafide witch I tell ya. Don’t believe me. I dare you to look for yourself.”
After school Jack and Jimmy decided they were up for the challenge. It didn’t matter if Max was pranking them. They both loved an adventure. It was a cloudy day in the dead of winter, so Jack knew darkness would come fast. Even so, they both walked down the avenue like they owned it, just strutting along, no different than any other day.
Right between them was Rufus the Airdale. Jack never left the house without Rufus, even on winter school days. Rufus would wait for Jack in the field behind the school unphased by the weather and with or without Jimmy, they would walk together, snow, rain or shine.
The sky was getting dark and there were no lights on when they reached the old Ramsey house. Even though they knew trespassing was wrong, they thought nothing of walking onto the property and into the backyard, Rufus in tow.
“Can I help you boys?” Said the witch in a very polite tone. She seemed to pop up out of nowhere.
“Max was right. You are a witch!” Exclaimed Jack. The two boys stood staring at her, paralyzed with fear. She was just as Max described her. Rufus on the other hand walked right up to her seemingly more trusting than he ever had with any other being, in total submission, laying down at her feet.
The witch bent down to pet Rufus on the head with her boney fingers and said “Good boy,” to the sweet dog, then turned her attention towards the boys.
“Where are your manners boys? You entered my property unannounced and haven’t even introduced yourself. I am Pheobe Phaint. Pleased to meet you."
She reached forward to shake their hands and both boys recoiled. "And yes, if you must apply a label to me, I am a witch. If you are curious about me, just ask. Straight up you have nothing to fear; that is if you show me the respect I deserve. I am a good witch and a good neighbor that loves every living thing. Just like there are good and bad people in the world, so are there good and bad witches.”
“Give me back my dog! Snapped Jack.
“Do I look like I’m holding him down? No, I don’t, do I? The animals of the land, sea and sky, large and small trust me and know I am their friend. It is my quest to protect them and to help them multiply so they can dominate earth. They know this. They are not like naughty boys, out to cause a ruckus and put people down. Ah. If only little naughty boys and girls and naughty grownups too knew how to be more like the animals, life would be more tame; more sane. Go on now. I can see you are not here to be my friend, or to show respect for my land."
“Come on Rufus." Jack said with trepidation. "Let’s get away from this scary old witch.” And Rufus barked at Jack, while Phoebe whispered in his floppy ear.
“It's okay Rufus my dear friend. Don’t you worry. I plan to teach the boys a good lesson. Perhaps they will think twice before they disrespect a good old witch like me again.” And Rufus gave her a big long lick before he returned to Jack’s side.
The boys walked swiftly in silence, perspiration on their brow and upper lip, in spite of the cold evening air. It was Jack that attempted to speak first, but instead of words, it was baby toads that sprang from his mouth, one after the other by the dozens. Jimmy gasped in shock and horror to say WTF and it was baby sparrows that flew from his mouth. When the creature regergatation finally ceased, both boys knew from where the spell had been sprung and a hard lesson had been learned.
The meeting with Phobe Phaint lived on in infamy and from that day forward Jack and Jimmy thought twice about what to say to whom and when, with a new level of respect for all things, land sea and sky; especially those that fly on brooms.
