Serious
Why so serious?
They ask, day after day. You try to take a break. Live life, have fun, just for a little while. "You're failing! Get back to work!" They say to you.
Why so serious?
Why? Because we are forced to be. Seriously, being serious earns you respect. CEOs are among the most respected among our society. How do you think they got where they are? Being serious, but taking breaks. But if you take breaks now, you won't make it up there. Climb the ladder, but if you stop, you slip, you fall, you fail.
Why so serious?
Because I can't afford not to be. It's better to be icy, to achieve your goals, to live comfortably, because you are serious, than to laugh at the world, and lose it all.
Why so serious?
Aren't you serious, though? You, reading this, are you always living on a rainbow? I guarantee you haven't lived the most carefree life in the world.
Why so serious?
Why so carefree? The path to success is concentration and determination. You need to take responsibility, and in that package comes seriousness.
Why so serious?
Why so serious?
Why are you seriously asking?
Knowledge
Knowledge is having something stored in your head that you are positive is true. Until you think about it more deeply. Knowledge is something that can be used for or against us. Knowledge is our anchor, what we are taught to seek, what is drilled into us to find, from the time we are toddlers, at preschool. Knowledge is the base of our world. Without "knowledge," what would we know? Without the knowledge of communication, how would society function? Without knowing that green means "go" and red means "stop," how would we live safely? But how will we live if we think we know everything? That the sky is the limit? There have been people on the moon. That the Mona Lisa is true art, and other people's isn't? Who decides what is true, and why? Knowledge is what you have figured out during you time in the world. Knowledge should be flexible, should be ever changing, and interchangeable. Knowledge shouldn't be something only the fortunate have, or that one person decides is correct. Who says that the sky is blue? What if the people who are supposedly colorblind are he only ones of us who can actually see the world in its true colors? What if the rest of us can't see a color correctly? What if we're judging people based on facts that aren't true, and we can't confirm? What if knowledge is a curse, a weakness? What then?
A Tiny Window
A tiny window,
A breeze wafting in,
The landscape green and luscious,
The trees blooming with buds,
Or maybe,
A tiny window,
A minuscule amount of time,
In which to,
Accomplish and achieve,
Escape and unshackle,
Live and love,
Or maybe,
A tiny window,
Shedding light,
On that one ray,
Filled with hope,
Or maybe,
A tiny window,
Life,
Less than 100 years,
Less than one century,
How much will you do?
In that tiny, tiny window,
With that tiny, tiny window
To Believe
To believe in God is to believe something bigger than yourself. To put faith into something that you don't completely know is there. To believe that someone up there, beyond our conscious, is either watching out for us, or will help us in another life. To believe in God is to believe that humans aren't always filled with hate and anger, and deserve second chances. God is not something we can scientifically prove is real, not yet, and maybe not ever. But believing in God is showing that you don't need science to always guide you, that sometimes you need to put faith into things that you can't necessarily prove, but you believe anyways.
Age
Aging is our worst fear
Yet it is inevitable
It signals to Death
When to arrive
Which scares us more
Because we do not know Death
And what we do not know
We fear
Our worst nightmare
Come true
Aging
Slowly at first
Then come the wrinkles
The finished life
The creaking joints
But we overlook
The perks
The maturity
The wisdom
The love
That comes with age
Perfection
Perfection
All around
Competition
Be better than the others
Be better than your friends
Be the best
Perfection
Seeing the magazines
And the models
Be better
Be prettier
Be thinner
Perfection
Watching the sports players
Be faster
Be stronger
Be better than the rest
Perfection
Colleges
Only accepting the best of the best
So be better than the rest
Be smarter
Perfection
Be better
Be prettier
Be stronger
Be smarter
Perfection
Don't be yourself
Be better than you
Be better than the rest of them
Perfection
They say
"You're perfect!"
You mess up
You feel their disapproval
Be better
You scream at yourself
Perfection
You pressure yourself
Push your limits
Aim for perfection
Nothing less is acceptable
You tell yourself
Day after day
Perfection
No mistakes
No rest
No breaks
No one to say
"It's okay"
Perfection
Unobtainable
Sought after by all
Except
The ones who know
Chasing perfection
Puts you farther behind
Than the ones
Who accept themselves
And improve themselves
Perfection
A mirage
A fake
A fraud
An insecurity
Perfection
Is
A
Demon
Hurting
All
Who
Chase
It
Unsent
They say that broken hearts heal with time,
I say they're wrong, time, never,
Broken hearts worsen with time,
Shattering, splintering forever
With a broken bone,
It shouldn't be mended by itself,
But a heart?,
Left to heal, on a dusty shelf
I unlock my bin,
Stare at my letters to you, from me,
The ones I will never send,
The ones you will never see,
Unsent letters,
In a box, should be the trash,
Locked away,
Before I do anything rash
The words in those letters,
Cutting, but true,
Tell the story,
Of me and you
