Please Write
I think writing opens your heart to places it has never been. Writing takes your soul higher and allows you to feel without having to say a single word.
There is an emotional cleansing to writing and makes you feel more alive than never before.
You actually get to know a glimpse of a higher power when writing fiction and there is an adrenaline rush to this power.
You change other people if you dare allow them to read the words you have written.
You become more attune to yourself and to those around you. You can spark up romance and have people gaze up at you in awe when you tell them you are a writer because we are a breed alone.
Write to discover. Write to explore. Write because you can. The most powerful freedom is freedom of the press.
the truth behind writing.
there’s so many reasons why not to write.
cliches of poor, starving authors.
no jobs, no families, just drunken, lonely men
building houses in the woods.
but those statements don’t mean shit.
because they have nothing to do with why you should write.
so why should you?
you should write because the words themselves are screaming at you.
you should write because they are everywhere, under every inch of skin,
throbbing, pulsing,
alive.
and you feel like if you didn’t let them out you would die.
you should write because the poetry sucker punches you out of nowhere
in the middle of a movie
a date
a shower
you should write because you can’t imagine ever not.
don’t force the words
don’t try to be deep
or copy styles from some bestselling author
or to impress people who you don’t even give a shit about.
write for yourself.
write because you can’t help it.
write because the words spill out uncontrollably.
as if you’ve slit your wrists,
and your emotions bleed into in the paper;
into pages now stained with your beauty.
you should write because you hear the nouns
courting the verbs
as the jealous adjectives
mistakenly murder the adverbs
you should write
because it’s the only time
that you force yourself to look in the mirror
for a short while, no matter how afraid you are
you’re forced, compelled; and for once,
you stop lying to yourself.
write because the words just come
appearing at their leisure
driving you mad
gnawing at your soul
write
because if you don’t let the words out
they’ll die
they’ll wither
and you’ll be alone.
surrounded by the corpses of art
wishing for heaven
longing for purgatory
yet trapped in avici.
trapped
in the horrible silence
of
eternity.
writing
the world is constantly screaming at us.
writing is how we scream back.
people are always beating us up.
writing is fighting them.
writing is the moment when birds realize they can fly. When they see there's so much more out there. You're a bird and writing are your wings. Don't miss the chance of flying.
Write.
Writing is a way to express yourself. It is unlike any other form of expression because through the written word you can catch people's attention with well thought out arguments and stories.
The written word is much different than the spoken word.
The spoken word, once it comes out, cannot be erased. It cannot be perfected. It is not very thought out, but is rather a hastily organized string of thoughts.
The written word can be written and rewritten in order to most accurately convey feeling and information.
Writing.
Ever heard of it?
The act, where we bare our souls.
The only time, we can completely be ourselves,
without having the fear of being judged.
It is the only time, we no longer care
for the world, its just the truth and us.
The simple truth.
The only time, where we no longer carry the burden.
It's all penned down, all been poured out.
It is the reason we smile.
It shows us how much our lives have changed
in a week or a month's time.
Some memories, making us laugh;
Some bringing tears to our eyes.
Portrays our strengths, our weaknesses, our mistakes
How and with who we have had good times,
The times we've cried with no one by our side.
The only reason being, it was important to us at the time,
hence we wrote it down.
Apparently, the only one who knows me in and out is my diary.
It is my sanctum.
If you haven't started already, you should.
Fancy Feast.
Though you might find it difficult to find the words that bring out the correct expression on your feelings, the correct reflection as to the depth of those particular feelings, and the correct inflection to cause them to relate to another, you should absolutely find the time to make writing a hobby. Writing is a beautiful release for your mind, beyond the escapes promised you by anything you spend your currency on, be it drugs, vacations, or a meeting with your psychologist. The analogy I've found most fitting for writing is cooking and I believe you'll see the sense in it very swiftly.
When cooking, do you only set things up and anticipate that the items will come together to display themselves akin to a 5 star dinner ? If you do I imagine you might be wearing a straight jacket as you wear this. I digress, you tend to each of the meal's necessary cooking needs, meat needs to be thawed, tenderized, and cooked all the way through , whereas noodles need to be boiled, stirred, and tested to ensure that their texture is not stiff. Your mind is a dish waiting to be served, thought it needn't be public or for others, it must be tended to in an effort to present it's absolute best form. A mind that is without writing but thinking can be just as the picture above : a pot of a chocolate or fudge (which is delicious) but just staying hot, bubbling, boiling, and crashing over the pot from which it was prepped, synonymous with your emotional, physical, and psychological reactions to thoughts left cooking.
You are a chef in the kitchen and your brain is your greatest contribution to yourself and to your fellow human, a great mind is one that is tended to at the precise time it needs it. A sub-par mind chef will allow thoughts to boil over, stagnate, and eventually crust over the rest of their being for others only to wonder on, whilst twiddling thumbs in hopes of change introduced by the outside world. The only thing that happens to food chefs that happen to practice the latter approach is that they lose their kitchen, position, staff, and what have you, you stand to lose so much more because people can only read so much of you before they have to assume there's nothing further to gander.
No two minds are alike, albeit there are stunning similarities as there are billions of us, you truly shine, a star unmatched. Will you be a superstar with your written words initially or will you fall flat to others eyes? Either way, are not important and there's a reason that can be taken from another, far simpler quote ,"One cannot love others until they've truly learned to love themself." You only love yourself when you know your needs and wants and agree to invest in them accordingly ; writing needs to be an item you partake in so that your mind isn't neglected.
Now off you go, clean your tools, wash your hands, dawn your garb and prepare for us a feast of the eyes, and when you do : Make damn sure it pleases yours like chocolate to the palate.
Writing.
Most people who don't take the time to sit down and write are people with busy minds. They are the people who don't have the patience to analyze or pinpoint exactly what their heart is trying to tell them. I find that the people who hate writing are the people I can't talk to for too long because they aren't willing to see both sides of anything. Writing is a key element to me because no matter where I'm at or what I'm doing I always feel the need to express myself. Nobody may ever read this, but at least it's off my chest. What I can write down I will never be able to fully whole heartedly tell someone. My thoughts are best when I write because it comes purely from my subconscious, the inner most truer me. Sometimes I write something then come back to read it and think to myself, "damn, I really was feeling heavily." Sometimes I can't bring myself to reread what I wrote because it's just too emotional for me to want to reconnect too. Writing is a pure honest art form wherein the words aren't lies when it's a rant, the sentences are rhythms, and the voice is a tour guide through one's head.
With all of that being said, you should write because it's free. No matter where you are you can always pull out pen and pad, open some kind of app, or gain access to some kind of paper with a pencil. No matter how you feel you can always express. Putting one word down is all I need sometimes in order to reconnect with myself... sometimes fussing at myself on paper causes for me to bounce back to reality. You should write because it's beautiful. Your writing alters and changes as your knowledge of literature grows. Just as much as I love reading essays is as well as I can write one, depending upon subject matter. Just as much as I love Edgar Allen Poe is as well as I can write poetry on his level, as well as Dante, and Khalil Gibran. It's interesting to see just where writing will take you. I keep a diary on my phone about everything I'm feeling at the moment and from time to time I scroll all the way down to see the thoughts I had previously and am amazed at how much I've grown. It's such an exploration that isn't an obligation. I don't stay obligated to anything and when I feel like I have to be I have a tendency to run away, it's something you don't have to run from. You write one thing on Saturday and never edit it until months later, but it's still there and never once bothered you.
It is true when they say that some of the best things in life are free, writing is one of them. You should write to enjoy, explore, voice, inform, and understand. Sometimes all you have to do is write...
Discover what lies within
Words leave me jumbled
At certain times
When I try to speak my mind
They sound so perfect in my head
Bouncing off the walls
Of my cranium
Inside, they sound divine, sublime
And when I'm calm, composed
When I feel just right
The words may tumble out
Like they're supposed to
If not exact, at least similar
But how often is it
That I'm completely in control
Not as often, as I'd like
Instead I'm a warehouse of emotions
One dormant, asleep
The other awake, wreaking havoc
Anger, misery
Enthusiasm, pure energy
Leave my words tangled
When they try to surface
I can salvage what comes out
Make it seem prettier than it seems
Hell, we're all masters of this craft
But only I know
How it's supposed
To be, how my words are those of true beauty
And only you know
How your thoughts
Mismatch what you speak
Wouldn't you rather let the world know
The colorful truth that lies within
Your unique, unfathomable soul?
I decided that I wanted
To let it out, the way I see it in my head
I thrust my words left unspoken
Onto a pen, a paper, a keyboard, a laptop
Into written medium, whatever the medium
And I discovered
That the beauty which lay before me, once I was finished
Was far better than what was once trapped in my head
Far, far better, stronger, wiser
Now wouldn't you like to see
What you're truly made of?
Wouldn't you like to let,
The world in on your elegance too?
If not for the rest of us,
Write for yourself
Believe me, once I started
I just couldn't stop
Why We Write...
I will start with one of my favorite quotes about writing, by Joanne Harris (It happens to be my profile icon/avi):
"You write because you need to write,
or because you hope someone will listen
or because writing will mend something broken inside of you
or bring something back to life."
I use to HATE to write, oh so long ago. Until the 9th grade, it was my least favorite thing to do in school (and being a nerd, that was saying something).
I will not go into the tale as to my evolution from hate to love to need to...
Instead, I will walk through the question based on expanding on the quote above:
"Because you need to write..."
Just like you need to eat, breathe, and move; writing fulfills a similar stimulation to the mind. If you write, you will grow. If you write, you will become a better communicator in both the written and spoken forms. Writing can take you anywhere you want to go. Can let you understand people. Can reveal a deeper self tucked away deep inside. It becomes almost addictive as to what you learn about yourself once you begin to write.
"Because you hope someone will listen..."
Everyone, in some way, would like to be heard or understood a bit better than they are currently. At times, writing, even if you are currently the only audience member, can 'hear' something in the writing. You might be shocked by just how different an idea or a thought that is 'in your head' already, changes once you write or speak it aloud. That said, as soon as you start sharing what you write, you touch those that read it. Touch them in light or profound ways.
"Because writing will mend something broken inside of you..."
There is perhaps no greater salve to one's psyche than to write out your mental and emotional pains and anguishes.
Suffer depression? Write
Suffer abuse? Write
Suffer period? Write
Suffer self-loathing? Write about it! Write the contrast and force yourself to be honest about it.
"Bring something back to life."
This is similar to the previous. Writing can bring back the past with as much clarity as a photograph can. It can make a memory more vivid.
Just as easily, sometimes it is easier to write a letter to someone that is out of your life (physically or metaphysically). It brings comfort, or it helps to free the tears that are currently drowning your soul. There is a melancholic beauty to this process.
Hope this gives you enough reasons to write. Once you begin, I hope you find what you are looking for and find a lot of treasures you were never expecting. When you do, you'll understand...
