Defying Gravity
“It’s not scientifically possible!” I screamed, as I plummeted into the sky. “I can’t be falling up!”
My friend, falling right alongside me, crossed her arms as her hair whipped in her face. “Clearly it is. We’ve just misunderstood gravity!”
“How did this happen?” And how as my friend being so utterly calm about it. “We’re going to suffocate! Freeze to death!” Space was flying toward us at an impossible speed.
But, as we shot past the atmosphere and into its vast expanse of planets and stars, I found I still had air in my lungs to shout. “This is a dream. It defies logic, science and every possible truth in the world!”
We were floating in space, now, which seemed a perfectly comfortable temperature.
My friend rubbed her chin in thought. “If a scientific theory as basic as gravity is proven wrong, is it still science?”
I spun mid-space to stare at her. “What?”
“I mean,” she mused. “We use science to explain the world. But what if that’s an incomplete explanation? What if there’s another way to explain the world that we haven’t even thought of. Something that can explain what’s happening to us, right now?”
“Uhhh…”
“Something beyond logic, truth, or even the supernatural.”
“I don’t know,” I said. “But can you hurry up and figure it out. I want to get back down to earth.”
“Oh, I don’t think I can figure it out. I was just…wondering.” She gave me a silly grin, hair now floating freely around her. “Looks like we have a long time to figure it out, though. Provided we don’t age or starve in space.”
Great,I thought, as we continued to float through nothingness. Just great.
Lies and Eyes
"It's not scientifically possible, you must be adopted" The teachers words shook me to my very soul. We'd been talking about genetics and now she was announcing to my entire class that I, a brown eyed child couldn't have come from two pale eyed parents. I nearly burst into tears, was she right? Had my parents lied to me? After all I looked nothing like my brothers, my older brother had Mom's eyes and my little brother had Dad's. After school I braced myself and suppressing sobs told my mother I knew and understood. Moms face scrunched up in puzzlement and she assured me I was not adopted. That's when I told her that science doesn't lie and her and Dad couldn't possibly have a brown eyed child. That's when my mother laughed and told me. "Sweetheart, your eyes aren't brown, they're dark green".
This is based on a true story that happened to someone decades ago and the science "fact" was later disproven. The little girl, turned out she looked like a paternal aunt she didn't know.
The Third Reaction
Fight or Flight. Stand there and stick up, or run away. Well, I thing I have a third reaction. Stand there and take the pain. Not just that. Enjoy the pain. Humans have this unexplainable avoidance to pain. Pain means injury. Injury can mean dead. Avoid pain. Fear pain.
Not me. I love pain. I feel the sting of rocks pelting me. Pelting me because I am different. And I revel in the pain. I revel in the trickles of blood running down my skull. I revel in the pain.
Not possible.
Fight, Flight, or Enjoy.
The third reaction.
Our Beast
Sleep-strained, sugar cube eyes brown like barley. Little girls run off to their mommies. "Run away, run away, run." Pounding feet calls to mortal fear. Fear to hate. Hate poured puckered fingers back in molten lava and struck us like a brand.
Perchanse this existance is the persistance of a motly craven waft that dances of an ulgy sort. Kind that hits the snot slurped, buried farce of flappy candies rotting in the wind. Immaturity breeds foul contempt of the court. Agression calls to mortal fear. Fear to hate. Hate burned the present held hands of gods sheep blood red.
And though we breed, we sink our teeth in a fleshy sack of fat, we mesh the world in our mortar crushing with our pestle, we hate. So trashy, gumpy piceses piled up on simple cares and sticking together like caramel stacked like skyscrapers high. You can't dig yourself out of the laquer filled dancing beast that takes us captive.
Because running away would never be scientifically possible.
Impossible
"NOT SCIENTIFICALLY POSSIBLE!!!" Ragheam said as lights blaired.
"No, no, NO!! How? This isn't correct!! We checked and checked!! We made sure they were the correct all the way through and through!!" L'odannas yelled as he typed onto a computer.
"Empty that container!! Get that kid out of there!!" Ragheam yelled as she typed on the other computer.
The container in the center of the room, filled with a green substance and a kid hooked up to cords, drained. L'odannas opened the glass door and unhooked all of the wires on her. He picked up the elven kid and took her to the chair. The kid started to cough and fell out of the chair, onto her hands and knees. Wings grew from her back and she lifted her head up. She stood up and rubbed her head. She flipped her hair back but she collapsed immediately after that. Then, she died right there on the floor.
"Damn atë në ferr dhe mbrapa! Damn it to hell and back!" Ragheam said in Albanian as she slid the stuff off the desk.
"Failed, failed, failed!! How come we are creating failures now? We ended up fine." L'odannas wondered as he typed on the computer.
L'odannas typed away as Ragheam paced the floor. She started cleaning her mess on the floor. As she finished cleaning the mess, L'odannas cleared his throat.
"Grab the next kid and I will make some more adjustments." L'odannas said as he typed the computer and making adjustments on the wires.
She...
She plummets down the building, and somehow starts flying. No wings, just....herself.
She swooped past tall skycrapers, all lit like beacons, but the light pollution doesn’t stop us from seeing the stars. Moments later, a weapon kinda thing loaded on her left arm, burnt a pure dazzling blue, and fired. The sky exploded into a wormhole. She held my arm and took me flying through it into outer space. No life supports, just the two of us wandering in emptiness with countless stars.“How the heck??? How are you doing this??How is someone like you even possible”...She replied,” ’cause I live in your imagination”.
Yawn
YAAAAAAWWWWWNNNNN. One of the most powerful concepts in the universe, because now that you’re thinking about it, you’re going to. You might be tired, you might not. You might really not want to yawn, but thinking about that comforting stretch of the jaw muscles, that sweet, deep inhalation, it’s going to be impossible to resist. You might not want to yawn, resisting it is just not scientifically possible!
